It's decision time and I need help. At 83 years old, I'm about out of
spare energy, so I'm considering stopping some of my activities. Near the
top of that list is the Electric Wiper Conversion Kit business. While not
a high-energy nor a high time consumption project, it is something to which
I have to devote some time and resources -- for little profit. So, I've
just done an inventory, a bit of which I'll share with you: I've got 5
kits ready for immediate delivery, with another 6 almost ready to go in a
couple of days. That's all I have except for the demonstration unit. To
acquire more basic hardware, I'll have to notify my machinist, who will
have to order the materials for at least 50 kits, then laser and CNC cut
the materials. Then he'll have the welding and powder coating done before
doing partial assembly. Altogether, given that I'm a small, low-priority,
customer, that's a couple of months before delivery of those 50+ kits. I
can pretty easily do my final assembly as orders arrive.

That delay is a small part of the problem: Several other of the components
of the kit are also unique and custom made: Motor arms, Dash filler
plates, and Return hose elbows, as obvious examples. Still others are not
always immediately available and are very dependent on order quantity for
price breaks. I have some inventory of those parts; the limiting one at
the moment, Motor arms, I have only 47 in stock. When those are gone, I'll
face a 30 day backorder to get another 50-100 (probably, dependent upon
their current quantity requirement) at about $4.00 each. Some other
critical parts I have 80+ in stock, so decisions can be delayed longer.
Non-critical parts I can get almost immediately, though at much higher
prices in small quantities.

SO, what I'm asking for is a "show of hands" from those who are hoping to
purchase a wiper kit in the next, shall we say, 6 months. Those not
planning to buy within that time frame may want to reconsider, because it's
likely that this will be the last chance ever (unless someone wants to
"buy" the business).

If you're seriously planning to buy an electric wiper kit, either directly
from me or from a vendor (primarily Applied GMC), please send me a note to
that effect to GMCWiperMan@bellsouth.net. DO NOT post it here on GMCNet,
polluting the board with unnecessary traffic, which I won't count. The
count over the next couple of weeks will determine whether I do another
production run and its quantity. Your input will not be a commitment to
buy nor stimulate any "sales pitch" -- I frankly don't care one way or
another about the sales. :-)

Thanks for your help,

Ken H.
