Is it possible to convert freon from R12to the 134 in a 1976 Palm Beach?

absolutely, my 77 royale was converted. Better yet change over to DuraCool instead, lower pressure, "better" refrigerant and you wont need to do as much with the oil as it is compatible with the R12 lubricant. other will chime in I'm sure.

Yes, but you'll need to drain the oil out of the compressor and flush the system, then add the proper amount of oil that is compatible with the 134-A
A better option for some of us has been to charge with Dura-Cool or Frosty-Cool. Both are a HC12-a propane/butane mix refrigerant that is widely used in other countries, but is not legal (for shops to install) in the US.
I'm sure you will get more details on that in additional posts.

What Carl said.
I’ve had great luck with the Dura-Cool, and have used it in other vehicles, and some other places I likely shouldn’t.
It’s an excellent refrigerant, IMHO.

Yes. Duracool is about 10% more efficient than R-12. R-134a is about 10% less efficient than R-12.
I have been using Duracool for over 10 years. You don’t have to drain or flush any components. It is good to put in a new receiver/drier. That is also a filter and your old one might be partially clogged.

134a works fine in vehicles that were designed for it. Use R12 or HC12.
