Praying for John Wright as well as others in the Midland area.

Get those GMCs to high ground! Only when you and yours are safe.

Thanks for the prayers, we had 10 minutes to get out when the first dam failed, we got back this morning. We stay with my wife sister and her husband. It was a cascade effect and the water from Edenville dam overwhelmed the second dam at Sanford. If you have watched the national news they have had the videos of the failures. The first was a true failure and the second was an overtopping of the structure. We live downstream from the Sanford dam about 8 miles on the High side of the river. Some of our neighbors got flooded up to 2’ on the main floor and basements full of water. Our house is up on a slight rise and the house and pole building were safe. The trigger was the 5+ inches of rain overbite earlier in the week.

You all be safe!

JR,

Sure glad to hear Y'All are OK. And SO sorry about the many others in the
area who are not so fortunate. Looking at the Google Maps Satellite view
of the dams, it's obvious that the single spillway on the Edenfield dam
couldn't be expected to pass all that rainwater. Nor could the 6 on the
Sanford handle the deluge from Edenfield. TOO bad! At least not the 15
in. of rain that fell here in Americus in '94!

Stay safe!

Ken H.

Never discount the power of prayer and positive thinking. So glad you
dodged the big bullet. A lot to deal with this spring, so far. Glad your
family was all safe. Sounds like some of your neighbors were not as
fortunate.. Earthen fill dams are always something to keep a watchful eye
on. Reinforced concrete ones also.
