I'm a GMCnet forum adherent - just works better for me. Recently the GMCnet (my.birdfeeder.net) link was redirecting me - spam hijacked!
So I went to the GMCnet Archive on Google Groups for my daily fix.
https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!forum/gmcnet-archive
There were recent threads I posted replies to but my posts don't show up in a search of the GMCnet Archive. I was surprised to learn that I apparently don't exist - I'd had my doubts, but this seems conclusive!
People responded to and quoted my replies, but my posts aren't there. Very odd. I searched for other people from recent posts and found a few of them were also absent from the Archive. Some had only very old posts and not the newer stuff.
I was under the impression that the Archive was a complete history of the GMCnet and GMC Mailing List. If it is not it is troubling. What are we losing/missing?
I do not know if this is a mailing list or forum issue or both. This is a GMC Community resource so I'm asking the community to take a couple of minutes to search for their own posts on the Archive and report back if there are omissions.
Thanks
Richard
PS I was surprised to see there was no mention of the hijacked GMCnet web site. It was down for a day - initially a spam redirect then "down for maintenance".

Billy,
Thanks for explaining why things are not showing up. Does this mean that as far as the Archive is concerned those posts are gone forever?
It's unsettling to think that the Archive is missing all of the posts from people that don't know of or use the email list.
Billy's got enough on his plate - does anyone out there know how to fix this and get it automated again?

RICHARD,
Billy fixed it for you from this point forward. Anything in the past is history and lost. You are not the only one this has happened to and Billy is fixing the problems with individual users as they pop up.

Just a few notes about the Google Groups GMCnet Archive, the GMCforum and the GMCnet mailing list.
Way back when (September 7th, 2007), Google Groups supported an interface to traditional mailing lists like the GMCnet. So, I setup that GMCnet Archive group and subscribed it to the mailing list so that we would have an on-line copy of the mailing list traffic. It's read-only, cuz there was not a way to make it by-directional with the Forum or the mailing list. Plus, the forum and mailing list integration has short comings and confusion to start with.
The Google Groups archive has a few benefits. It's free, it has much better search capability than the GMCforum, it doesn't require anyone to manage a server.
It has a few downsides. Since the GMCnet mailing list and GMCforum are a loosely connected set of tools attempting to mirror each other, if a Forum user is not registered on the mailing list, then that users posts will not show up in the mailing, or the Google Group archive... and there is no way to get them into the archive once a message was missed.
As Billy mentioned earlier, there used to be an automatic mailing list enrollment of a new Forum user. But somewhere along the line that stopped working.
Now a little post script. Like many things that Google brings to life, the mailing list integration and Google Groups is no longer supported. For now it still works as they have not completely turned off that feature, but no telling when it will one day stop. And there is no way to make any changes to the Google Groups integration as those admin features have been removed.
All this trying to keep the mailing list uses and web users connected.

Eugene,
Thanks for your input. And I'm sure everyone will share my THANKS for all
your efforts over the years in support of us. The disconnect between your
Forum and the mailing list is unfortunate; I've "suffered" with unknown
original postings for a while now. I don't spend enough time on your Forum
to know whether there's already a notification for new users to also join
the GMCNet, but if not, I really think there should be -- MIGHT help.

Eugene,
Thank you for the explanation. I really wish that this was made clear that people need to be on both the forum and mailing list or people on both sides (and everyone in the middle!) loses.
I initially signed up for the mailing list when I bought my Birchaven. The group was a lot more active in 2012 and the flood of individual emails was overwhelming, so I think I switched to the digest, and then since I preferred the forum through my browser, I must have unsubscribed. I had no idea I would pay a price for doing so. Otherwise I wouldn't have unsubscribed and I would have just deleted the digest emails upon arrival.
Adding a new "Sticky" at the top of the Forum pages with
IMPORTANT FORUM & EMAIL LIST INFO
Read This Before Signing Up!
would be a good start, explaining the situation and need to be on both forum and email list so nothing is missed, with a similar email notice for the email list.
I know the situation is more of a PITA for you, Eugene. Thanks for keeping things running.
Richard
