The back story here is GM used the 2.4 Liter engine in the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain until end of 2017. With the 2018 year they changed to a turbo charged 1.5 engine. I am looking for something to replace my 1998 Blazer and I can find plenty of these just off lease vehicles. I just do no know which one to go after.

I know that Johnny Bridges has had a Soul for several years. I bought a 2018 in May of that year. I bought the Exclaim (!) version because I wanted the performance and handling of the turbo engine. The somewhat stiffer ride that accompanied the upgraded suspension and larger diameter wheels was an acceptable compromise for me and my wife. We get around 25-27 mpg around town and maybe 30 at speeds of 70 or so on Interstate trips. Currently have over 23,000 miles on it and VERY pleased.
For use as a towd, you would have to use a full trailer or tow dolly for any but the basic model with manual transmission.
Check April 2020 Consumer's Reports for its recommendation as a new OR used version.

By way of explanation, I have a box stock - well almost, I added a cruise control - 2012 Kia Soul, base model 1.6 liter engine and a 6 speed shift-it-yourself with just at 50K miles when I bought it. I bought it at a slight premium because I knew the PO and the history of the car. It rolled over 160K miles the other day coming home from a show someplace. Maintenance has been oil changes and tire rotation every 5K miles, using recommended weight synthetic oil. It will be a quart low halfway between changes, and just at a quart low when I change. I've put a set of pads on the rear and two on the front along with two sets of cheap tires. I run it down the freeway at 3K rpm, this gives a smooth ride and 71 - 72 MPH and between 30 and 35 MPG depending on A/C and hills. I tow it four down and the only way I can tell it's behind the GMC is to look at the rear view camera. It probably increases the braking distance a bit, with floated backing plates and conservative distances I've never noticed. I'm gently looking for another, the 1.6 engine is dropped except for the turbocharged version, the 2 liter one seems to get about the same mileage. The two liter is port injected if I read the spec right, my 1.6 is direct injection and I've had no problems with it. My ASE Master mechanic bud says those who only see in town service sometimes have intake valve problems with direct injection, I've seen none of it. He says they only see it on D I engines which don't see much highway service. Not a problem around here.
I have my eye out for another one, but I don't want the CVT that's available on them. I understand great strides have been made with CVTs since the age of the DAF... but I wanna see some more time on them. The 2 liter is available with the 6 speed in the base version. I don't know if the safety systems can be added to it or not. I do so little night driving I don't need the headlight upgrade but a cruise control that adapts would be nice.
Without denigrating the carrying capacit6y of Ken's Blazer, I have gotten two THM-425s in the Kia along with my usual junk and gone several hundred miles with them no problem. I'll add, a major selling point6 to us old farts is the back seat. Ir's upright and therefore easy to get in and out of.
