Looking to get a portable macerator. Searching the forum I havent found any newer posts regarding anyones install or preference of brand. Looking for a little advice/input on which brands everyone likes best. Thanks in advance everyone

I don't think there is any real preference. jabasco or flo-jet. pretty simple device really.

I don't get the idea of a portable one, when a permanent one is not that hard to install. storage is limited, and I like my macerator tucked up and away underneath.

I've been using a Seaflo brand on a 5th wheel for about 3 years now. It works great and only cost $80 on Amazon. The only problem I've had is it's designed to hook on RV waste pipes via the same ear hook design the hose couplers use. This puts too much wait on the ears (hooks) and after all the use they are starting to break off. I remove it after every use and that can be messy You may want to do a permanent install with a back up plumbing design to allow manual dumping in case it fails. That way you only have to clean store the hose. I know someone on here has designed a good system that I'll probably be doing in the future on my coach.

They are available through us.
However a GMC is different than the SOB type, so call me and I will discuss.

I won one at Bean Station. Has a bayonet fitting and is self cleaning. Don't remember the brand
but is available at (hate to say it) Camping World. Works great.

Jim,
I went with this kit. Jim K from Applied can get it for you.
Clean Dump CDTO Twist-On Portable Macerator System https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007HRMYLC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_007CEbKKM8JDG
But truthfully, if I'm camped for more than a couple of days I still prefer to use the old hose.

Like to see people laying on the ground at the dump area with the low frame
GMC.
The other coaches are lot higher so you not need to lay down

Jim,

Maybe you should look at mine (slightly modified). I never have to lay on the ground. The only thing that is tough is reaching the tank valve and that is just because I don't bend that well these days. I'm not about to take that valve away.

Scott that’s something that I think I’d like to get. I also prefer the use of OEM sewer pipe. Although traveling around the country there were several occasions that dumping uphill or over a storm drain style dump site was necessary. Matt I’ll have to take a look at your setup and see if sways me differently. Thank you for you responses. Thank you Jim. When Im ready to purchase I’ll give the shop a call. Thank you.

to solve Matt's problem, they make electric valve pullers that will bolt on to your current valve and pull it open and push it closed.
My current coach has 2, one on each tank. Works like a champ.

Ha. That would be me the first time emptying my GMC tank. What made it worse was the coach was facing slightly down hill so I ended up with a pipe and hose filled with gray water at almost level. Lucky no one was behind me...

Tom,
Who makes these and will it work with the Thetford valve?

When I installed the mascerator I used a 4-way plumbing stack fitting. The sweep side inlets are each connected to one of the two tanks, the outlet connects to a tee to the mascerator and straight through to the old large hose dump pipe. The straight inlet of the tee connects to a check valve and then to a female hose fitting that is hooked up to the fresh water hose. The mascerator outlet is hard piped to the DS and connected to a small flex and expandable mascerator hose which is stored in a 1-1/2" electrical conduit and elbow. A keyed waterproof switch turns the mascerator on and off.

Process is... 1) Pull the hose out and run it to the dump pipe. 2) open the BW tank and pump. 3) close the BW valve and open the GW valve and pump again. 4) Close both valves and hook up the fresh water hose. 5) flush the piping and hose. 6) store the mascerator hose and disconnect and store the fresh water hose. 7) drive away.

Bill do you have any pictures of the setup? I dont have a GW tank but like the idea of being able to flush the works.

Matt, Manufacturer is barker, www.barkermfg.com. I picked this one up as a Camping World closeout. Their Auto-Drain is made for 1 1/2" #24140, and 3" #24130. It attaches to your current valve (2 bolts) and has a remote switch for installation at your convenient spot.
The box indicates Valterra/Bristol models. I do not think a Thetford valve would be a obstacle.
Check their web site.
I had to replace a drain valve on the black tank. Tiny bits of TP had gotten behind the sliding portion of the valve and then became hardened paper machie (sp?). This was an afternoon job because the plumbing had been assembled and glued in place, without thought of ever replacing any of it.

Tom,

Thanks, I'm interested, but at the going price on Ebay, it will have to wait a while. It would take some cleave adaptation to mount it on a Therford valve.

There was one of those clip - ons in the stuff we got donated from Jimmy's old Pumpkin that didn't sell on eBay/Craigslist. I don't remember if it sold at the flea market or not, I'll look sometime in the near future. Current coach has a Jabsco installed, and I didn't like the idea of busting the ears on the outlet pipe so I never used it. I dunno it works or not. If I find it I'll try it. I have a sewer hose for extended stays.
