I still believe it should be labeled "Black's List" instead of The Black List. Black List definitely has unfavorable and unsavory connotations!

Sorry to report that this is the revision date still showing: Updated
4-08-2019
But the list does seem to be updated -- except that my entry still shows
that I have the bearing tool which now resides 80 miles away with Alan. No
big deal.

Beauty is often found in the eyes of the beholder.
For much too long, people have become outraged at innocent references
to how people pronounce names or events that are actually historical in
nature. That is the truth of the matter.
People like my own father, a career Navy guy who served aboard the USS
SARATOGA throughout WW2, and my Father in law, a much decorated Marine Hero
until the day he died at almost 101 years of age, who island hopped across
the South Pacific with the 3rd Expeditionary Force, and later in the Korean
"Conflict" at the ChoSin resevoir, would absolutely raise "Holy Ned" at any
attempt to alter the past, by changing simple things like punctuation or
spelling of names. Black List it is, and so it has always been. Leave it be
is my opinion.

Roger is the first to tell you it was not all his doing, and knowing Roger,
he does not want to take credit for it.
Maybe if we explain why we need to change it, he might endorse.
If nothing else, it is an attention getter.

At one of the first GMCMI conventions I attended I went up to Roger Black and said, "I want to thank you for the Black List!"
He said, "It's not the Black List, it's the _Assist_ List!!" He seemed kinda peeved about the naming.
I don't think it would be a bad idea to ask the guy who started the ball rolling for his input. Would seem kind of weird to honor the history of a name, a word, instead of honoring the guy with the name's wishes, no?

I've had the same experience that Matt had, as I'm sure we all have when mentioning the Black List. Fleeting expressions of concern appear, explanations follow.
If it's simply a question of clarity, GMC Assist List couldn't be clearer. No explanation necessary.
Otherwise, ask Roger - it's his idea that started it and his name!
