Hi,

two cables are at the old coil. I know I need both for the HEI as well.

What cable do I need to replace with a new wire (due to the old 9V new
12V), and from where to where does it run?

The chassis-gifs don't really show it to my untrained eye.

Don't replace either. The negative wire to the coil goes to the distributor and stays with it. The other wire is the 9V power that you need to put an insulated connector on and just strap it out of the way for possible use if you have to go back to the old distributor and points. Run a new wire from a fused 12v source that is hot in the run and crank positions of the key, and is not energized when key is in accessory position. That will be your HEI power source. There is a tach terminal on the HEI if you need that, and run a ground wire to the engine block or intake manifold.

My '75 points Ign chassis schematic shows the same wire that powers the coil also runs to the fuse panel and supplies power to the fuses for Gauges and also Cruise/Backup lamps.

If I recall there is also a male spade connector labeled IGN. Get your voltmeter or test lamp and see if it supplies power in Start and Run key switch positions, but not in Accessory. Do this before you remove the old distributor or after you have installed the new HEI, otherwise when you move the switch to Start position and the starter engages, you will lose your reference for the distributor timing position.

Best and easiest source is the fuse box like Bruce said. Other than that, the wires at the column from the ignition switch are even better if you do the connection correctly. Remember to add an inline fuse to wherever you find good power right there at the source. This will protect the wire no matter where you run it from there.

You are making this more difficult than necessary. All you are trying to do is eliminate the resistance wire that is in series with the ign. coil. I will go look it up on the schematic and give you the wire color. Find that wire and run another one in parallel with it. You do not need to eliminate the existing one. Just disconnect it from the removed coil and tape it up. The second wire on the positive side of the coil can also be taped up. It goes to the starter solenoid and is not used on HEI ignitions.

OK, the resistance wire is a pink and black wire that goes forward to the feed through / junction block terminal BX. The pink/black wire is a 20 ga. resistance wire meets a black 18 ga. wire that ends at the junction feed through BX. Open up that connection and add a new 16 or 18 ga. wire to the junction and run it to the HEI +12 volt connector. It will take less that 3 feet of new wire and 15 or 20 minutes work.

You are finished at this point.

Note: On an HEI system that wire is a black with double white stripe 18 ga. wire. Use any color you want. The electrons will not know the difference.

I found the black cable with pink writing on it saying "Resitance Do
Not..." but can't find the junction block terminal BX. There is a tunnel
with the cables which has a T in it, and I can't really see anything.

Pull the glovebox out and the thru-firewall connector and fuse block are directly behind it. I believe that's the connector Ken referred to.

That is it but you do no need to go that far. Follow the resistance wire back toward the block and find where it connects to another wire that continues on to the terminal BK. Attach your new wire to that junction of the resistance wire and the regular wire.
