A fellow GMCer on Instagram lost his coach to fire a few days ago. They were on a 5 month road trip. No details other than the fire occurred in the engine compartment, if I hear any more details I'll share. My thoughts go out to them.

If you think that fire does not happen to you, then guess again.
People spend considerable amount on appearance and neglect fire
extinguishers.
Unless one is disabled in an accident, you can control a fire if equipped
properly.
We provide very few of the Fire Fight kits, but sell tons of
Appearance items.

My personal count within my own club is up to 6 coaches, and 4 tow trucks.
Don't think it can't happen to you. It can and does. One of the first
things I did after I bought my coach was to install an on-board fire
suppression system. Mine uses Halon gas. There are other versions that use
suppression products other than halon if you prefer that. Don't forget the
generator compartment, and the gas refrigerator also. There has been much,
much written about fire safety in these 40 year old relics, much of it
falls upon deaf ears. Please learn from the misfortunes of others.

Jim, I had few call me tonight and they agreed with me that if you have
proper equipment on the coach, there is no reason for the coach to burn up.
Also we discussed the Independent Appraisal that one should have to avoid
the insurance people placing a low value and Salvage it.
I have seen insurance salvage coaches for few thousand damage.
I get calls from people after thefact and I have to turn them down on
Appraising tier coach.
I have few that received the Full appraised amount when burned or major
damage.
We charge $250 for the service.

The appraisal is definitely a very important piece of the puzzle, as is
agreed value insurance policies. The last Cascader coach that burned
earlier this year was owned by our webmaster. No one was around it when it
burned, so no exact cause has been determined yet. He has since purchased
another coach, and is in the process of upgrading it. He has it roadworthy
and was at our Christmas rally at LaConnor, Washington. Great to see him
still interested in these old coaches. But, he is out a bunch of $$$$ for
the replacement and upgrades.

The handouts for the 30th Dixielander rally were FireFight hand held foam extinguishers. I also have one in the engine compartment. After fitting Halon in our studios and learning just enough about it to get in trouble, I'll skip it in an open area like the engine compartment. It's heavier than air and will fall out the bottom. And, while it will extinguish the fire while it's in the compartment, if the ignition source remains it will rekindle when the halon falls out of the compartment. The foam will stay put. As Hupy sez, you pays your money and you takes your choice.
We used Halon in our studios for the code required fire suppression, on discharge the A/C system quit and sealed the ducts and the halon got to about 5% I think - whatever Code required. We didn't want sprinklers over the(at the time damn expensive) equipment. Of course in time one of the numbnuts managed to set it off. Blew all of the tiles loose in the false ceiling
FWIW halon is the antithesis of helium. Breathe a bit and your voice will go down about two octaves. It is however, interesting stuff - fire just doesn't work in it.

True there are preflared lines. In standard lengthsh. My transmission cooler is plumbed with them, including the union and the 6' preflared to get to the upper fitting on the radiator.
I'd rather the lines were one piece of tuning and I had the end of a 25' roll after healing the rear lines on my daughter's 99 Taurus. (Whose rear lines run right by the muffler above the wheel where road water can and does spray the hot line till it rusts through) so I ran a \piece of it across. Once it's connected and the system bled, I'll take the clips off the old one and tie the new one down with them.
