Hi,
I havent had my 77 coach long but one of the things Ive noticed is it is really difficult to turn the wheel when the coach isnt in motion. It seems the wheel will turn a bit from side to side but then gets extremely hard to turn, makes K turns nearly impossible........ When the engine is off the wheel doesnt turn easily at all so it seems there is hydraulic pressure. Also the belt seems tight and not sloppy or squealing. Any thoughts?
Thanx guys......

It's called engine assisted power steering for a reason. With 3000 psi
hydraulic pressure to assist our feeble attempts to move the front of a
12,000 pound stationary vehicle with forearm only effort, it's value
becomes readily apparent. Start the engine, or unload the front suspension
by lifting it off the ground.

Rick, Is that filter readily available from a local parts supplier or something that needs to be ordered? Also is there anything I should know about changing it, bleeding etc.?
Thanx
Richard Denney wrote on Sun, 01 December 2019 13:20Check the filter between the power steering and the hydraulic wiper. If it
is clogged, it will reduce the pressure differential in the steering
gearbox and reduce assist. It's a common problem. It screws into the wiper
unit in the line from the steering box.

Clean and re-use it. It is just a chunk of brass wool.

Filter and fresh PS fluid is a good thing, but when was your front end last greased in entirety? If the wheel has no self return return to center this is a safety concern. If the above does not help I would disconnect drag link at Pitman , jacks under A arms till tires just off ground and grab tire and manually cycle lock to lock checking for binding.
