After our 8 day trip to Ogden Ut. over Donner Pass (7000ft+) Tehachapi back home and a total of 1700 miles. With no problems. We managed to go during their record breaking heatwave of 100+ degrees. The stretch between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas was the worst as we got a late start and traveled through the heat of the day. When we got home, I changed eng, trans, gen, and final drive oils and sent samples in for analysis. They all came back in excellent shape. (scary) Much better than I expected.

Now, doing research I found an old thread discussing final drive venting and the correct gasket being a double gasket. My pan was installed with silicone and no gskt. Naturally the vent hole was blocked. The gasket I got has the cutout maze to accommodate the vent but it is a single thickness.

My question is, will this have enough space to allow proper venting or do I need a different gasket?
I think I just answered my own question but, we'll see.
Thanks,
JerryB

BTW: Don't stop for gas at Terrible Herbst South of Vegas. Almost twice the price as in town.

Should you elect to use some sealant, spread it really thin around the vent
groove.
There is also a 2 pin hole on the driver side shaft seal.
