Yes, Ken, I will be covering these combo inverter/converter/battery charger/power sharing/auto transfer switch units in the Oct. presentation. Up to now few GMCers would/could take advantage of them. But, now with cost effective electronically managed lithium iron phosphate batteries becoming available from many manufacturers the programability of those units can become a desirable part of giving a GMC a much needed heart-lung transplant when it comes to living well in a GMC.

The key is how to properly use and recharge both a lead acid starting battery and a lithium house battery when they operate in such different voltage regimes and behave so very differently during discharge and recharge as well.

In the previous post I should have added that GM finished coaches most often require the user to plug the shore power cord into the generator outlet receptacle in order to get generator supplied 120vac into the house portion of the coach (thanks for the reminder, Dean H.). Royale used an unusual back-feeding of two linked circuit breakers to do that and other converters used even different strategies. Some POs may have added an automatic transfer switch so there is no substitute to tracing for yourself how your specific coach is wired.

Jerry,

Excellent short synopsis of the electrical systems.

One additional point that may be the source of some nomenclature
confusion, especially among those with past exposure to SOB's: Many large
coach come equipped with "Inverters" (Heart is one common brand which comes
to mind). Those 1000 Watt to 4000 Watt inverters are commonly also
"Converters" and include automatic "crossover switches" to select which
mode they're operating in. Such devices are not common in GMC's, primarily
because of their size and cost, plus the fact that most wanting an inverter
don't choose to replace the pre-existing converter at the same time.
