Greetings all,

I can't figure out how to get the furnace to light off in my '77 Birchaven.

Propane turned on, turning the thermostat up until it clicks and nothing happens.

From other furnace traffic on the forum it seems that at least the furnace blower should come on when the 'stat is calling for heat but no joy here.

Is there a 'main switch' for the furnace (to cut its 12V power off when the coach is parked and idle) that I am missing?

All other 12V living area equipment (lights, water pump, fans, etc.) is working fine.

Thanks in advance,

stu

What is the make and model of your furnace?

Sir: There should be a 12v fuse in the panel that might look good but have a dirty or loose connection, and there should be a reset button on the furnace itself. In our Crestmont it is on the side close to where the power supply and thermostat wires are.

As Chuck Boyd said check connections and also it requires at least 14 volts
at times to get thing going.
I usually give the unit a good slap on the side to loosen things . It works
more than you know.

The switch on most is at the thermostat. There are a couple fuses and a reset on some.

OK, y'all pointed me in the right direction and the problem is solved!

Thermostat contacts were a bit corroded and didn't make good enough contact to pull in the furnace fan relay.

And, for my future reference, when the thermostat is at its lowest setting it stays completely open regardless of how low the temperature goes, so that is the 'shutoff' switch.

Thanks again!

On my furnace (Suburban) there's a rocker switch on the lower right side in the opening there, almost impossible to get to. You can switch it by reaching yuour hand flat beside the furnace. It turns the 12 volts to the furnace off and on. I had the corrosion problem on the thermostat as well, I simply replace the 'stat.

I have seen the switch on the Suburban units.
We turn it on before installation. I'll ask the rep why they do that other
than as a protection of the board during hookup.

How's to tell the rep to put the damn switch where you can see it and reach it. I turn mine off in the spring and back on in the winter. A colossal PIA.
