At the GMCMI Convention in Tallahassee, John Richardson presented a tech talk about oil analyses and the incredible amount of information you can learn about your engine from the analysis. Since then, I've been reading some of the articles and newsletters on Blackstone's site about oil, engine wear, additives, viscosity, brands, filtration, etc. I highly recommend that every GMCer browse the articles on the Blackstone Laboratories site, and get their oil analyzed, regularly. Thank you John Richardson. The results for my 403 appear to show fairly good news. See the analysis here:

I've never sent a sample in to Blackstone but I'm a big fan.
See this quote from one of the articles posted; " Subaru EJ 2.5L Turbo engine, used in
the Impreza WRX STi and Forester XT. We have more than 5,000 samples from
this engine in the database, at an average oil run of ~3,900 miles.
5000 samples in the database for ONE engine!!
That's what makes their reports so useful.
I wrote to them for advice on the trans in my explorer, that particular trans has a reputation for premature failure, Mine has 180,000 miles and no info.
Their reply was impressive "of course we have loads of baseline data for that that transmission, change the fluid, run it for 30,000 and we'll have a look at it"
In another article i read that on some automatic transmissions lead is present during assembly and its presence in the fluid would indicate whether or not it had ever been flushed; good to know if you're paying a lot for a truck with 120,000.
I hope we see more discussion on this.

There went 30 minutes thumbing through all those great articles (i'm supposed to be working)
I am back on this forum after a long break. finally taking some time for the Revcon.
I can't find the article in the Spring 2016 issue. What am i missing ?
Also, I found the article about the Vintage Motorhome gathering, Mar 2017. Are we doing that again?
