That is just a tad cheaper than the lithium like we have in our 500ah bank
on AaRVee. The general consensus is that because of optimum
characteristics of actual usability compared to led acid, our system using
lithium would equal 1,000ah in lead acid technology. Also consider our
bank’s 155 pounds total weight vs. half a ton or more.
Since Completion of our solar system on the coach over a year ago we have
lived in our coach “half-time” and we have not plugged into shore power or
used a generator at any time. Our monitoring system shows us as having
only used 9 charge cycles in over 18 months. If our ‘77 Palm Beach stays
in service for another 42 years, our batteries should still have over 50%
of their life left. After 1,000 cycles that amperage could drop to 90%
(450ah).
That said, Firefly’s Carbon Foam Technology is new to me, and I’ve only
seen the manufactur’s info on it, so must do further research before
writing them off. I am very pleased with all my experience with our bank
of five 100ah lithium batteries. At the Tallahassee Rally we passed on our
500 pound Onan to another GMCer, and freed up a space for a 3 ton floor
jack. Even with the battery bank. 7 solar panels providing up to 970 watts
of capture, all the oversized copper wiring, inverters, etc., plus the new
floor jack, our coach lost about 200 pounds! Oh, and I might add that the
batteries and all related electronics live conveniently under the sofa,
with no corrosion or gassing associated with lead acid technologies.
Considering the weight savings on our GMC Motorhome, and our boondocking
needs, it was a no-brainer to step up to lithium. Hopefully we will pass
our coach on to one of our granddaughters, and she will not ever have to do
more than annual tightening of electrical connections.

Vern,
That sounds like a project I would like to do. I have thought of mounting 8
SolarWorld 345 watt panels, I do not want to make this MH look like a
camper, Maybe I do not need that much energy. Trying to make the panels
lids for a storage unit on top. I would like to see more details about your
installation.
