Skip,

Those links are to 75x100 pixel thumbnails -- resolutlon too poor to allow
any view of details.

But, in general, I've never seen any tire damage from "shell" tire covers.

Im guessing 5 or six years old, been on the spare rack for 2 years, was fine when it was put on there, checked it about a year ago before my last big trip and was fine.

And how old was that spare tire, Skip?????
I remember stories about spare tires that just exploded while on the
spare carrier.
No age data on them, though. That was long before I heard about the "5
year rule".
If the rubber deteriorated enough, it could conceivably fall off the
tire.

Oh, by the way, "thumb", as in "thumbnail" pix aare always microscopic.

That tire wouldn't be from 2011 or 2012 would it? Reason I ask is I had problems a few years ago with 2 Goodrich Comm T/A's with 2011 or 2012 mfg dates (I don't remember exact specifics, I just remember 2 tires failing within about 100 miles of each other while on a trip to SC).

In my opinion the tire cover had nothing to do with your tire failure, they're just crappy tires. I haven't (and won't) buy Goodrich Comm T/A's again.

I keep the pressure in my GMC spare tire really low, about 10 psi, and if I need to use it I can fill from either the GMC suspension compressor or a portable Ryobi comp I usually carry just in case the Viair fails.

Got them in 2012
I had 4 of them have internal separation and they replaced no question asked or any extra discussion.

I had trouble with those BFG Commercial Tas too. I had them fail anywhere from 3 - 5 years. At 5 years they were just falling apart. I have switched to Coopers and have had good luck so far, but they are not old enough yet to address long term durability.

I have heard lot of issues on the BFG tires since 1980 .
I prefer not to use them.
So far Firestone has been best for me price and dependability.
