My waterpump was new when the back in 2008 when I had the cam chain and gears renewed, or 2009 when the engine was rebuilt by DickP. In anycase its about 10 years and 30K miles. So I thought I'd look for a source of the Cardone 21118H waterpump north of the border since they seem to be backordered in the USA.

From the Cardone website I found a couple of sources in Ontario and contacted the closest one. I got this response back from them:

"Regarding the water pump. Cardone does not have any stock in any of their warehouses. I am able to supply you with a new hi flow water pump from GMB (130-1260P). I confirmed with their tech department this morning that it has the roller bearings that you requested."

He provided a link to the product at:

GMB says they are a 75 year old company manufacturing OEM and aftermarket auto parts. The website for GMB is
https://www.gmb.net/

From there a search on GMB for a 1976 Toronado water pump comes up with 3 models for AC vehicles. An OEM (cast iron), an aluminum version and the recommended 130-1250P an HD version which by its weight also seems to be aluminum. Looking at the application list for this pump it shows 1980-71 Toronado All Models along with the 5.7L 81-84. Does this seem to be the correct pump for our application with the correct turning direction?

They do have a PDF on Heavy Duty water pumps with a construction cut-way showing roller bearings, but no listing for the 130-1260P. Only industrial and trucks are shown. However they may use the same shaft construction on all pumps.

So I'm wondering if this GMB company is making these and supplying them to Cardone and this "Epicor" companies to distribution to the auto retailers. Would this knowledge help to increase the availability of the desired pump?

Opinions?
