Hopefully we are mature enough to handle this discussion without too many jokes or too much innuendo Twisted Evil , but I have a question about macerator hoses.

I am still using the same macerator hose that came with the coach after ten plus years. It is a piece of 3/4" vinyl garden hose, cut to length, and fitted with a male threaded fitting clamped on the cut end. It is stored in a conduit storage pipe similar to this:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g3410-macerator-hose-storage.html

The problem is that the hose gets/is very stiff in cold weather, making it difficult to remove and then re insert it into the storage tube.

The question is, does anyone have any recommendations on a more pliable hose, specifically one that stays pliable in colder weather? What do you guys use?

Thanks,

I used an agricultural use rated 1" rubber hose. I would think it should stay pliable down below freezing.

I store it in a straight piece of 1.25" PVC conduit running along the underside of the driver's side.

Carl- when I did my macerator i was picky. I wanted a 1" id hose. That was smoothwall on the id. And flexible at a wide range if temps. After going to every big box home inprovement, plumbing, hardware and industrial supply shop in a 100 mile radious I could not find something I was happy with. Talking to Jim K he said he was able to find such a hose so I bought from him and was not dissappointed.

I did notice there might be a simmilar hose at the overton store. But had no reason to look at it closer when I was there a month ago.

I was running mt macerator when it was just above freezing and hose is pliable.

Jon, Is this the hose 'kit' you got from Applied?

http://appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/1837

Did you connect yours directly to the macerator pump? Mine was plumbed in by the P.O. to adapt it to a hose fitting and I screw the hose on to that fitting just like a faucet at home. Not entirely convenient, but it works.

Not that kit at all.

Just the hose he supplies with his macerator kit. I only bought the hose only:

I do have a method to hook the hose to my house sewer. But never do, because city has free rv dump about 2 miles away.

Carl, I use a piece of Rubber Garden Hose. I coil it after use, and store
it in a plastic trash bag with a twist tie closure. I flush it after i
empty the tanks, black first, grey second, then clear water. I usually
throw it under the coach when not in use. The PVC pipe trick works well,
many owners use those, too. Cold weather does complicate wrestling with any
hoses.

I use the same hose along with the strange looking end piece. I got them as a kit along with the macerator pump but not from JimK. I have been using it for several years and it is always flexible no matter the temp outside. I have semi rigid pipe that comes out between the Onan and the battery and the flexible part I store above the battery.

That hose is expensive, but it is very flexible .
We also have the other hose that is lot less expensive we supply with our
kit, it is not as flexible and does not kink like the ones at hdw stores.
Our new kit has the Special reduced tap made for us by Lynn Clark that
draws out 50% more of what is left by the other designs.

This works for me...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003DIU4C0/

and this for where it's required...
https://www.amazon.com/Thetford-70400-Nozzle-Sanicon-Systems/dp/B002UC11QI/

Marine hose from mascerator to driver's side rear, then permanent connection to the flex hose.

Stores in some PVC electrical conduit - rigid abt 8' long total - that goes along the fwd side of the bumper bracket, then two 45s, and up to the rear tank. Plumbed in a fresh water connection with a check valve upstream from the mascerator. Pull the hose out of the conduit, extend to dump (the hose stretches), turn on switch, dump, turn off, connect and turn on fresh water to flush, then stick back in conduit.

Works great.

Sounds like I do about the same as everyone else with the hose.

in Spring of 2018, we were stuck in completely stopped traffic. People were getting out of their cars, since we had not moved for a very long time.

We were playing cards, and a knock came on the door, and my granddaughter got to it before I could.

It was a woman from one of the other cars who wanted to use the head.

My granddaughter agreed before I could say NO. I made the usual admonishment about what went down the toilet.

When we arrived at our destination, the macerator promptly jammed, and I spent a couple of hours fishing a feminine hygiene product out of the pump, and missed the boat ride that Lyla decided would be “it”. Seven year old’s can be that way.

Five months later, we were stuck in traffic again, and a knock came at the door. Once again, my granddaughter was the first at the door.

Her response, without prompting “sorry, it’s broken”

After the other traveller left, I had a truth discussion with Lyla.

Her response “I know, but WE have things to do, and I don’t have time for you to be fixing the poop-shooter”

Spoken like her Grandmother.

Question on this old subject for Jon and/or Jim K: Can I adapt a connector of some type to the 'blue' hose to hook an extension onto it?

The end of my hose has a plastic barbed/ garden hose end. I can hook up a garden hose to it to extend. I also have end sealed when stored with garden hose end. I can get photo later this week.

Hi Carl,
You're right, its hard to avoid the innuendo regarding the challenges with your stiff hose in the cold weather. However, attached to our macerator is a very flexible, 1.5" O.D. hose that actually looks similar to a shop-vac type of hose. It is about 12 feet long and stores in the bumper. It was installed by a previous owner, so I do not know its origin. I don't have a photo handy, but we'll be in Tallahassee on Friday (3/22). Hope to see you there.

I use 3/4” industrial garden hose.

It takes 30 seconds longer to empty.

I use a 1” to 3/4” nylon reducer.

I have 20 feet of 1 1/4” conduit under the coach (through part of the frame in the back.

I also use heavy duty 3/4” garden hose. I bought a 50’ at Home Depot. I cut it in half and fastened the cut end to the macerator through a 3/4” to 1/2” adapter. Don’t let the Home Depot plumbing dept tell you they don’t have the adapter. It’s not in Plumbing. You’ll find it in the lawn sprinkler area.
Attach the end with the male hose end. Then you can use a hose cap on it to prevent the sewage from flowing out. I store the other 25’ section in my propane compartment and attach the hose connectors together when I need to reach farther. Once I had to go about 150 feet to a sewer clean out while traveling. So I bought a cheap 5/8 50’ vinyl hose and used that. The macerator ran fine while pumping through the 5/8 hose. I ran a 20ft piece of 1-1/4” pvc alongside my frame. The front rested atop the diagonal brace at the front and tied with a stainless spiral clamp just below the rear cross frame at the back. I also used the same clamps along the side frame. East to slide out the hose, unscrew the cap and pump out. Then put the clamp back on and slide it back into the storage pipe. No need to flush a hose.
You can find the one piece 20’ pipe at a plumbing supply company. Get one with a bell end (made for connecting another pipe without using a fitting). This makes it easier to feed the hose in the end.
