For those of you who converted your GMC to diesel or who drive diesel powered vehicles, a new ruling will go into effect in 2020 that will materially effect diesel prices. At that point all ocean going vessels operating within 200 miles of shore will be required to burn diesel fuel instead of high sulphur bunker oil. That will reduce the refinery supply of diesel available to the vehicle market and raise prices globally. Another gotcha moment......

I recently read that Maersk as well as many other marine transport companies are exploiting LNG as an alternative low sulphur fuel. There are several marine engine manufacturers already producing LNG power plants, so the long term impact on LS diesel prices may not be that severe.

Oh they just say they switched. Unless the epa is going to monitor the fuel usage

Actually, Bunker C, which is what a lot of older ships use for fuel, is
very dense and must be preheated before it can be injected into an engine.
Many more BTU's fit into the same space as lighter, more highly refined
diesel fuels, so more cargo can be carried on vessels so equipped. The rest
of the world uses it, even on smaller vessels.
There is once again insanity in session at the Oregon Capitol.
Presently being discussed is a bill to outlaw the practice of oil well
fracking in the state of Oregon. Just for your information, there are no
oil wells in Oregon, and no known reserves of oil. There are 4 natural gas
wells that are bored into bituminous coal beds near Coos Bay, that are low
producing wells. Other sources of natural gasses in the state are largely
from sewage treatment plants, and covered up landfills.
Oh yes, the highest producer of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is the
restrooms at the State Capitol Building. (Grin)
