Has anyone noticed the new 455 block from Rocket Racing? It has many improvements.

VERY Interesting. Now we can build 600Old's instead of Cad500's!

(but I don't even want to hear the price)

Bruce,
the side the starter is based on the transmission.
Our 425 trans is on the passenger side. the non front drive unit is on the
driver side.

Ken,

There is also a new Cadillac block supposedly being prototyped.
It will also be an improved version. Not a lot of details as of yet.

Jim K.,
That is what I was getting at. Do they have castings for both left and
right side starters?
Same for the Cadillac bock.

Bruce,
The starter bolts to the block on the left for rear drive setups, and bolts to the trans belhousing on the right side for the TH425. The blocks are all the same irregardless of drive configuration.

I believe that the question was being asked of the new engine block. Not
the existing ones. Originally, Olds stuck with a drivers side location for
the starter, it was a pain in the butt when swapping the engine into older
cars, particularly Fords of the 30's, 40's, due to interference with the
steering boxes.
When the 455's came out in the front wheel drive cars, engine swappers
rejoiced, for they switched the starter to the passenger side. They liked
the ELDORADO engines for the same reason.

The starter mounts on the drivers side. However there looks to be enough
"meat" to drill and tap holes on the right side.

Well,
Toss in:
4.500 billet crank 1895
7.100 Rods 545
Edelbrock heads 2390

And we don't even have the 4.400 pistons yet......

I think I'll just stick with my 461 thanks.

The right side needs the toronado starter as the block does not have the
holes as it mounts to the trans.
