So everyone can share our relief: Today I had my follow-up with the Chief
of Thorsaic Surgery at Emory University Hospital. Of the dozen or so
biopsies he did on lymph nodes around my lower left lung lobe, not one
showed any sign of the cancer having spread there. So, my cancer is still
rated "Type 1B" -- about as good as it gets.
I'll see him again in a month, then each 6 months for two years. If
nothing shows up during any of that, I'll be considered "cured". There are
some sort of unusual cells, non-cancerous, which may explain the hoarseness
and mucous problems which led the the tests that found the squamous cell
carcinoma. So, I'll have a pulmonologist looking more closely at that in
hopes of finally finding the cause of that annoyance.
To ALL of you, THANK YOU for your concerns, expressed in cards, letters,
emails, calls, and silent thoughts. I really do appreciate the outpouring
of friendship and caring from our communities.
Don't worry 'bout me no more! The Dr. & everyone else says I'm doing
better than most of their 21 YO patients! :-)
Ken H.

Excellent news Ken! It's great to know that you have a surgeon who's all over this. I know of many women who go through their surgery and then seem to get dropped like a hot rock with little or no follow-up. So reassuring to know that your doc is really keeping an eye on things with you and for you. π
