Jim has just such a GMC featured on his web site right now. He built it several years ago and now it is back as one of his buy-it stable. Bed was lifted inside and the lower half of the rear hatch hinges down to make a really large storage opening above the rear bumper. Not for a vehicle, just for stuff.

Yep, I've known Randy, his Dad, and their GMC for maybe 15 years. When I
first got the GMC and met Jim Bounds in '98, he had a very similar project
under way for another customer. I'm not sure that one (planned for hauling
an Austin-Healey 100) was ever completed, but Jim's done several other
similar ones. But, I don't know of one with a drop-down luggage/vehicle
carrier.
