Spent the weekend in Colfax California with the GMC 49ers and learned a
valuable lesson from a fellow GMCer. DON'T IGNORE THE GROUND. My house
batteries have under performed for the last two years and I was blaming the
batteries. A few minutes with Joe and his meter showed that 14 volts plus
went in the positive end of the two 6 volt batteries and just 12 volts
reached the ground end. An additional ground wire added and bingo, enough
battery power to run the heater fan overnight, much to our enjoyment.

Check you chassis battery grounds as well. Main from battery to block,
cradle to body.

EVERY time you are being mystified electrically, especially 12Vdc stuff. Be sure to check both the positive and negative side of the load! While you are trying to power the device, check the voltage at the device. Marli (my wife) and I did not have a coach furnace for the Colfax rally because...... 40year old ground connection was bad. So embarassed, but you don't have to!!!!
If you are adding any kind of additional load, you run the risk of overloading the ground wire connection. Be careful. Use oversize wire, proper crimps, terminated properly, with proper fasteners.
