Hey All;

What's the tire de-jur that is being recommended now? I put new Commercial
T/As on six years ago and haven't driven it since (except to the GMCWS Mt
Hood Rally (about 400 miles)). I know I've dated them out, and I'm heading
out on a 4000 mile trip so need some new ones. Won't buy Michelins so am
looking for other recomendations. 16" Classic Alcoas is what I have. Any
help? Thanks

I use B.F. Goodrich T/A. on Eagle wheels. Third set. Other 2 aged out.
Never had a problem with them. Buy 7 at a time.

Haven't heard any negatives. I like 'em.

Personally? A 12K# vehicle is not where you want to skimp on tires. I wouldnt risk it with the cheapies.

I know the others are expensive, but if one blows out or you crash, the savings will be forgotten.

Personally, I would stay away from off brand tires. About 10 yrs ago I bought 6...what I considered "off brand"...Hercules tires from a local business. Tire tread was nearly identical to the Michelin LTX/MS and at around 1/2 the price. It was a "E" series tire. For the first year, no issues. Then one at a time I started having tread separation, all on the rear. Eventually 4 of the 6 tires went bad. One of the tires went bad in Tennessee on our way to Florida. I swapped it for the dated out spare tire and continued on to Florida. I then went looking for a place to adjust the tire and found that the closest place was several hundred miles away in a direction that I was not heading. It was going to cost more in gas to get to the facility than the tire cost new. I left the out dated spare on and traveled home with it. It was then I decided to never again use an "off brand" and switched to Michelin. I have since have had no issues. With the kind of miles we put on (10K to 14K per year) it has been worth the extra money spent to avoid problems. If that off brand tire had blown from the tread separation, it would have done significant damage to the wheel wells not to mention the time and hassle of adjusting it and, the possibility that an accident may have occured as a result of the blow out. Lesson learned, ya get what ya pay for. JMHO

I have to agree with Chris and Larry. Go quality. I also run Michelin. I also buy from discount tire when they have a sale, you can always find a discount tire if repairs are needed.

FMCA, through selected tire dealers, can save you a bunch of $$$$ on
Michelin and BF Goodrich tires. Seems like Alan Story got about $600.00
savings with Superior Tires in Salem on 7 tires. Sure worth checking.

I got Goodyear tires, Armor-max for mine. I replaced all 6 and it was about $300 per tire. LT225/75R16 G947 RSS Armormax

I've driven 10,000 miles since and no problems at all. Tires and brakes are things I choose not to skimp on. But that's me

Hi All:
I use Firestone Trans Force and have been very happy w/ them - We generally put 12K to 15K miles on per year - pretty reasonable at approx’y $154 per tire and at Discount tire for the nationwide coverage!
I also agree - would not skimp on This purchase - too important to safety and my pocketbook.

I look for non aggressive tread that will run quiet. Yes. An aggressive tire is alittle better on wet grass. I just don't go were I have ANY chance of getting stuck. Plus. An aggressive tire wouldn't really help that much more with our GMC's. 99.9% of our travels are on concrete. I like quiet. Next. NO tires from China. EVER. Bob Dunahugh

Brien,
Your correct in your selection of GoodYear tires.
I have seen people run them exclusively for years .

Brian K,
I have not been able to get any info on these tires. Are they an All Steel construction including the sideway or do they have the poly sidewall construction? The all steel sidewall tire is not what works best for our coaches. They are difficult to drive as the sidewalls do not flex much and will cause rut running and difficult steering going down the road.

Over the last 19 years I have had a number of brands and both steel and poly side wall construction tire on the coach. The coach came with the Goodyear G159 tire which was popular in the 90’s. Absolutely the worst driving coach when we got it. They were also the last of the 16.5 tires that I have put on the coaches that we have owned. Bit the Bullet and got Alcoa wheels and new Firestone RTS 225/75R/16 LRE poly sidewall tires. That coach turned into a 2 finger no effort to drive coach, drove the tires for 7 years. Next set was made up of 4 Goodyear G149 tires (All Steel) on the rear and the fronts were BF Goodrich radial TA225/75R/16 LRE. Steel on the back and Poly sidewall on the front. As long as the fronts had a poly sidewall tire on the front the rear tires did not affect the coach going down the road. Since we acquired the Buskirk Stretch we have run only the Michelin 225/75R/16/LRE tire poly sidewall tire in all position and we have had 2 sets on the coach since 2011. We do 12K+ miles a years and have found the Michelin Tires to work best for us. We typically pay about $190 a tire mounted. I am going to make a statement that you may or may not agree with, but $300 per tire is way too much. You do not get a good cost benefit ratio per mile driven.

If you are going to drive 2K to 3K miles each summer then you could get along with a lessor tire such a Kumo or Toyo and inspect them regularly. There are number of tires in this price range that many have used with success. You can run any tire that your happy with.

Cooper HT3s. Decent tires, not greatly expensive, and the local store's been selling me tires for 30 odd years. Quiet, which matters to me. I'm like Dunahugh, I don't go off the hard surface except when the pad at the campsite is gravel. They sell for whatever WalMart us getting. Mine age out before they wear out. I take them off at 6 years or so and resell them locally for pickups who will wear them out before they age out.

I'm with Johnny on the Coopers. I have been running Cooper HT3 225/75R16 LRE on the rears for three years and Cooper AT3 245/70R16 LRE on my front 16" X 8" Dodge truck wheels on the front for two + years. I have been very happy with them so far.

I consider them kind of a compromise, but I had bad luck with the Kumhos that came on the coach when I got it, and the subsequent BFG Commercial TAs that failed. Both brands had separation issues in less than 5 years. In the Southwest, tires do NOT last more than 5 years.

J.R.,

Here is the brochure link for the Goodyear tires. When I purchased them, the salesperson suggested they would work well as they are more geared to truck use, and would be strong on the sides as well. Again, they've worked well for me over the past 18 months and 11k miles. As far as price, I obviously would love to pay less, but my choice is to go with something I can rely on and not skimp. My time is more valuable than sitting on the side of the road for 6 to 24 hours. But--again--that's my personal choice.

Brian,
Please reread my previous Email. An All Steel tire including a stiff sidewall is not the best tire for our coaches. It can and will cause issue with handling going down the road.
