Been doing a lot of research here. Does anyone know what is the oldest known GMC motorhome in existence (verifiable by VIN number)?

The earliest TZE # in the Registry is 033V100053 - no owners name or address - in a 23'
The earliest TZE # in the Registry is 063V100011 in a 26'

I'm a 23 footer - looks like number 270. 247 units are older than me - anybody here ??

That is a surprise to me. I know that Bill personally visited with a fellow
over by the DFW metroplex that had TZE063v100021. He was very interested in
it as he thought it to be the first GMC sold retail. He said that the first
20 units were believed to be destroyed for certification purposes. I can't
recall the person's name right away but I know that he passed several years
ago and his son contacted me at some point to see if I wanted to purchase
the machine (which was in a very sad state). I passed on it and imagine
that it wound up at the crusher. At the time I just assumed that Bill had
turned it in to the registry. Heck, I could have done it. Just fell
through the cracks I guess.

Please DISREGARD the TZE063V100011 number as a real one. I originally listed it in my records because Dave Greenburg and I tried to validate it for quite some time and could NOT verify that TZE as valid with previous owners. As you may know the first 20 TZEs were thought to be scrapped after testing and never sold to the public. The first GMC MH sold to the public is TZE063V100021 which I checked out in North Texas a few years ago.

Several other very early Gmc MHs (21-50) that exist are:
TZE
21 (built 11-14-72)
22 " "
23
24
28
40
41
46
50
I would not be surprised if there were others. #41 has been called a prototype which it is not, it was built on the TZE manufacturing line, probably slowly but as a production 1973 coach.

Several prototypes (many design differences) were built, tested and destroyed at an earlier time.

That listing confuses me. I have TZE033V1001023 (I hope I'm remembering
that right--it might be 1022) and I believe my production date was in late
1972. The ebay coach claims production in 1/73 but it's #22. The true #22
would have been made in 1972, right?

Did the 230's and 260's have parallel numbering?

Rick,

I believe your coach is V1001002 and build date should be 05-73, let me know if that is incorrect.

Sorry about the confusion, I should have shown the additional "000" making too many assumptions gets me in trouble.

I believe I would call the numbering system a series sequence. Each model year starts at "V1000001"* and continues to the end of that model years end of production, mixing 23' & 26' numbering along the way.

*and for a kicker, there is a CA 1978 Palm Beach with the vin, TZE168V1000000.

Ya just never know.

Here is straight, TZE063V1000022 was the 22nd 1973 production model TZE built. It is also believed to be the 2nd earliest 1973 production GMC MH sold to the public. Discount all previous development vehicles, prototypes, test vehicles & square sides which were not titled as "TZE" and are not part of this discussion.

Many Thanks to you I have a copy of the Service Parts glove box sticker for V1000022. The sticker for V1000021 was missing so this one is the earliest example I have, these stickers tell many details of the original build.

NOW, a question!

I would like to assure the new owner of V1000022 knows of the historical importance of his GMC. Does anyone know the buyer of the coach, please ask around and see if we can locate the new owner.
