As I read the description, that seal is meant to be used with the "sharp"
edge forming the seal ("Mount it to the sides and top of a door or window
frame...").
That's not to say it couldn't be used "flat", but probably not very
satisfactorily. Might be a $34 flop.
I'd be more inclined to use one of the "Surface-mount Rubber Seals" from
this page: https://www.mcmaster.com/bulb-seals

I had good luck with the rubber seal that looks like the letter D, flat side down. Did not use it on the entrance door, but works great on external compartment doors.
The adhesive is the only weak spot.
