Any thermostat will work. All it needs to do is connect the two wires together and the furnace will come on. You can do it manually by just touching those two wires together or via a metallic spring inside a simple thermostat or via a battery operated electronic thermostat with timers and set backs, etc.

I?m reading this thread, and I?m wondering what is wrong with a heat-only
replacement Suburban thermostat? $15 on Amazon.
