I've got a 6 gal Atwood LP hot water heater. I turn it on and it lights and runs for about 5 seconds. Shuts off for 3-4 seconds and restarts. Does this maybe 5 times and stops. Gotta turn it off and it will do it all over again. Sometimes during this cycle it will lite and stay lit for the duration. Sometimes it will light during one of the cycles and after 5 minutes of burning it will shut off and not relight. I have cleaned off the igniter, and that did not work. What does the collective intelligence think I should do next?

I am not familiar with that heater but is there a thermocouple / sensor that tells the control module when the flame is burning? Most gas fired devices have one. If no flame is sensed then the gas is turned off and it retries several times before shitting off completely.

What Ken said - second most is the overtemp sensor. It should be on the outlet stack someplace and may be opening at too low a temp, ot the stack/vent may be blocked somewhat. Check both.
