My r-12 is gone. Here getting an oil change and want to recharge with r-12a.
What was the volume of refrigerant in the original system? Thx

Deb,
It will take about 2 1/2 cans, maybe just a little bit more-= of 12A and you use much less than the regular 12. The DuraCool are much smaller than 12 or 134A cans. Should be about 25/26 PSIG on the suction side gauge. Sneak up on the pressure, over pressuring can cause loss of cool output.

Agreed on DuraCool. I have the US distributor's contact info at home if
you'ld like it, or just head to Walmart in Canada.

Thanks folks. At NAPA here and they have done the oil & filter, a lube while they were at it and done the R-12A recharge. Will be nice to have dash air.

Deb, how long has it been since you've used the dash AC? Vehicle ACs and especially systems running old compressor designs like the A6 like to be run periodically to circulate oil to keep seals lubricated, etc...
If it's been a while since you've used it, you may want to ask them to do a leak check, to make sure the money you spent on a recharge does not go to waste....

They applied a solid vacuum for over 30 minutes and there were no leaks.
The original r12 was basically gone. I had run the compressor a few times hoping there might be something there, but with no refrigerant all I got was slightly cooler than vent air. They charged the system with R-12a with the applied vacuum rather than just under the pressure of the can.
So far so good. Getting a nice blast of cold air when I ask for it.
