[GMCnet] Motorcycle jack works great to remove, or install the rear suspention [message #333922]

Used two of the supports under the center section. Put a 1" square tube across the other two supports to hold up the brake drums. To stop the suspention arms from flopping around. Put a chain around the arms just below the shock bolt holes. Then inflated the air bag to 15 psi. Took just under 30 mins to get the suspention up, and the 6 bolts in. But not torqued. Bob Dunahugh

what type of MC jack? those foot lever deals? the whole assembly installs as one unit?

Finding anything a second time on FB is frustrating.

at some point it I think it would be in the best interest of all GMC owners and prospective owners to upgrade/modernize the forum software with the ability to host photos on the forum.

autoguide had been buying up all the existing automotive forums at an alarming rate and I think since this one doesnt qualify for their model, its probable someone will develop one that does with intent to sell it to them or perhaps they will start one directly at some point.

it will happen, just a mater of time but I'd rather see the national GMC club or some other owners group do it instead of a data collection outfit.

as much as the PTB want it to be, facebook is no substitute for the greater internet. and many do not and will not participate in/on facebook.

but will somebody please get BD a camera and an easy way to post pics here?! he's always upto his ears in the good stuff. lol

Very many GMCnet regular members do not use the forum software at all, and
can't see pictures that would be posted there. Remember that GMCnet is a
mail list that is mirrored on a forum and vice versa.

I agree that the photo gallery (GMCMHphotos.com) is cumbersome, especially
on hand-held device. But it is permanent and not subject to commercial
ownership decisions.

perhaps there is some way to integrate this forum with the photo site so that a photo uploaded on the forum goes onto the photo site and make a 1 click to post photos onto the forum that are hosted on the photo site.

I think if nothing changes here though, someone will start a modern forum/BBS with all the bells and whistles. I think the GMC club site should do this before someone else does.

ohh.. lots of good mechanical shots there! on the top left of gmcphotos.com it indicates 523 comments. is that interactive so discussion of the photos and or their content is possible or is that just the details people have added for some photos?

its not a hyperlink you can click on and I havnt seen any comments anywhere other than the extra details folks have added but I may be missing something.

For the most part we're a bunch of old curmudgeons sitting around a pot bellied stove in the local store telling yarns about our
GMC's.

With all due respect every so often someone comes along with the suggestions you've made below and we all go "ehyah" as they do in
New England.

I may be speaking out of turn but I reckon none of us old timers are interested in taking up the mantle of upgrading anything other
than our GMC's.

I laude your efforts to learn as much as you can about them before you buy one, however, once you do acquire one you will quickly
learn how much time, effort, and bloody work it is to get it into shape with enough reliability to drive it cross country.

From where I sit BD is too damn busy doing work resuscitating GMC's which from where I sit is more important that taking photos and
publishing them.

its just a small handful of them..

but BD obviously has a camera (would love to see more shots of that gokart) and plans to sell his current project. taking photos and publishing them is not a bad idea. judging by the others he took, he's not just another shadetree previous owner doing stuff that will more than likely need undoing so some sort of photo documentary on the current coach would help to connect with the right buyer. probably line up another for a prepaid project Wink

I do suggest he put posts related to that all in one thread so any perspective buyers can check that out. and it would be easier for the old timers to keep up too lol

I could html tag a motojack photo to this thread if he had them uploaded somewhere no problem but the way this forum mirror works (unintended email consequence I think) is an Opening Post gets split into several threads almost immediately. its all over the place in short order so yeah it would definitely be a PITA if to stay on track and update.

if it were a standard forum and a guy like Bob just couldn't manage to get photos into a thread I would be glad to help with a build thread (all in one place) but the way it is I think it would be a bit of an exercise in futility for the most part.

Ive been taking some photos myself of GMCs I look at. all the ones that were just down the road including the anchorman2 star and others that I will post someday somewhere for discussions and learning but here we must do it a certain (unusual) way and then the thread gets all split up so why waste the time with it?

hoping enough of the right folks in the GMCMI club can work something out an create something to solve these issues like we mentioned in Bobs other email/thread.

I actually know some others who dont participate here or facebook that I think would participate on a modern forum. dont know if they are GMCMI members. Im not yet either but if they had a well organized forum/BBS I would probably join without a coach if they would let me.

Im sure it will all work out at some point but sooner would be better than later.
