I'm appealing to the collective wisdom of the membership for possible reasons and possible solutions to this problem.

My coach has been sitting for a year out in Palm Springs in storage. Went over to start it up and installed a new battery..checked the oil and transmission fluids. everything looked pretty good. the front right tire was low on air so i was adding air to that but couldn't tell how it was filling as the wheel was turned to the right. I tried to turn the steering wheel to the left to straighten the wheels and inserted the key to turn to get some power ...lights came on..buzzer sounded....and I was able to turn the wheel a little to the left.

Then..now the tire was pressurized i went to start up the coach. The key cannot be turned from the locked position. no lights or power. the wheel feels totally locked. it almost feels like the brake pedal is also slight depressed and rigid. I did all the jiggle of the keys in the ignition to no avail The shifter appears to be in park and seated but there is a little play in the steering column. if i try to turn the wheel to the left i can hear a little creaking under the front left corner of the dash..like something straining.

Any ideas? should i attempt to have an old school mechanic go in and try to work on this or should I attempt to get it up on a flatbed and taken to Miguel Mendez straight away without letting anybody else mess with it?

thanks for any suggestions

greg

Yank and jerk the wheel as hard as you can in the direction the wheels are
turned while jostling the ignition

Grab the steering wheel and pull harder to the right while turning the key. Yes I know that right is the way it is now. Pull harder to the right and turn the key. Sometimes it also helps to move the tilt up and down.

It worked! leaning into the steering column and turning the wheel into the direction the wheels were turned cleared the steering ! thanks you guys. She's been sitting underused for the past three years but got this sorted out and threw in a new battery and she started right up.
