O Hi there, Thanks for reading this post.
Funny hot his GMC work for me.. Everytime I try to get ready or goto a GMC rally something seems to come up before. Key Cylinder broken, Leaking Radiator, Airbag issues, now getting ready for the Tucson AZ rally .... Brakes ???
Anyway ... Since a few days I have been noticing that my 73' Canyon land had been making grinding noises when I hit the brakes. Spend the last 2 months in AZ boondocking around and have been told maybe it's some dirts. Tried high pressure washing it out ... No luck ...
I have been talking to a few people in GMC community to ask for their opinions and get info. Just hate to ask the same people over and over for more and more info before they get to tired of me :-/ Since I am currently parked in Long Beach , I also called Miguel and asked his info and got quoted a estimate for repair.
Since I am a full timer in my '73 GMC I have plenty of time, I am trying to find out if this is something I could do myself with help of a friend who is pretty handy mechanically. My main reason from this is to learn more about my Coach. As a newbie I still think working on it is fun  and also like to save some money if possible.
As far as I have been able to get some info regarding this project, Since the wheels will be OFF and the brakes will be removed I might as well have a look at the rear bearings. I have been greasing them, but I don't know what shape or condition they are in.
Since I am new to any of this am I hoping to get as much info as possible before starting the job, Also ... to prevent any issues that I could have easily prevented by asking around or doing more research before "gettin dirty"

On a last note.... The PO mentioned showed me this when I purchased my Mello Yello ...
- Rear wheel complete brake job, Replace all shoes, hardware, and wheel bearings.
- Replace park brake system with new stainless steel pulley actuator assembly
- Change engine oil and filter, also power steering fluid, and brake fluid
- Replace brake master cylinder
Hopefully this means it will be a easy job

Most items can be bought local. There is a difference i think in part #'s for shoes from early to late Coaches. Yours as a 73 should be clearly one or the other. I had many suggestions and was a little confused on the best parts, so i called sirum gmc and he sent me all the brake cylinders, shoes and spring kits with the rear hoses. Looking back that may have been $100 more then buying from napa or rock auto, but not every store had every part, so i think going to sirum on the rear workes out equal to me and what my time was worth.
The problem part is the rear hoses, get them from a gmc motorhome source. Buy timkin bearings. And make look at instructions for grease seal. I have a tool for setting in the napa seals properly. The other super important item is to follow is the manual's instruction on how to tighten the castle nut to set pressure on bearings.
I took the time on my coach and was a sat-sunday project for myself. Start spraying brake line fittings today with kroil or pb blaster.

Thanks Ken, for the info. I have been thinking about doing just the tire that might need it to start with. Now I know how to find out which tire/axel might be the issue to start with 
Since as a new owner I would love to know the shape/condition of all the other tires and even the bearings I have been wondering if maybe just keeping it down to 1 tire and try to see how the others could be? Not sure how to check the brake lines etc. I will find out when I look at them and try to see how old they are I guess..
Since I sold my house a few months ago and decided to go full time GM-ing I don't have a driveway and garage anymore, this makes it a little (ahum) harder to work on this one at the time, check for parts, order parts, install -> next tire , etc etc
Still trying to look for part info from local vendors, since this would be easier to pick up than wit for shipping while GMC is not mobile.. ( LA RV parking is tricky )
Tomorrow planning on following your advice and start by having a look it and go from there...

I believe you stated that the coach had previously had the shoes replaced. Those shoes are a low wear item so I doubt that they need replacing at this time.
When reassembling, make sure that you understand how to set the tension on the axle nut.
READ the manual on this. FINGER TIGHT ONLY.

Dutch,
You previously said that you have been greasing the bearings........could that have been the bogie pin zerk fittings between the two rear tires?
To get to the wheel bearings you need to take off the drums.
Miguel will take great care of your coach if you need a shop. And his prices are not bad considering your in California.

if a bearing Race is that stuck, it takes lots of penetrating oil, and probably a careful dissection of the race. If you can file or cut a groove 90% deep into the race you can usually hit that groove with a chisel and the race will break open apart and it will come off. This just takes time and care as not to damage the spindle.
if you can heat it up, without heating the spindle, sometimes the race will pull off too.
not sure if there is a "special tool" for this.

You are not going to be able to file on that race. Use a Dremel tool with a
cut off wheel and score a line across the race. DO NOT TOUCH THE SPINDLE
WITH THE CUT OFF WHEEL. IF YOU DO, REPLACE THE SPINDLE. USE A COLD CHISEL
AND SAFETY GLASSES AND SPLIT THE RACE. THERE are puller tools that will get
behind the back of the race IF the brake backing plate is out of the way,
bunch more work.

The link you published did not work for me. While you are not a native speaker (but better at the language than many), I am hoping that the inner bearing you are writing about is on the spindle. This would be the inner race and bearing of the inner bearing. (Got that?) If it is, a good tool to start with is called a separator. If you go to https://www.harborfreight.com/bearing-separator-and-puller-set-62593.html that will get you a picture of a set of these tools.
If you fighting with the outer race of the inner bearing, the one that is in the hub and currently connected to the damaged brake drum, that is a different game. But, you will have to take all that assembly to a real automotive shop to have the drum removed from the hub and they will have the tools and knowledge to get that race out without additional damage.
