Matt, I noticed on your signature it has "Electronically Controlled Quiet Engine Cooling Fan". Would tell us more about this
Thanks

Jim,
Sure I will.
I love it. But you probably would like more information than that.....
I also have a Digipanel that I use to track "Coolant Out". While the two have no electrical connection, the tracking is amazing. It is actually what one hopes to have. When the 210° bar comes on, the fan starts. It will run until the 200° bar fades. The ONLY time things have gotten hotter than I like (still not in dangerous territory) was down in Kentucky for the eclipse, it was a 98/98 day and we were stuck in traffic. I have my idle set at 350/400. Things did get hot. I asked Mary to bring the RPM up to 600/650 and that was all it took.
Some of you may know that I frequently consult with both Tom Prior and JimK about both problems and possible products.
For quite a while now, Tom has been searching for something to replace the stone age fan and late bronze age thermal clutch used in the typical GMC.
Well, Tom located a production fan with an electric hydraulic clutch (like the thermal clutch, but electrically controlled) that had the characteristics that would make it a good fit. Then, He, Johnny, JimK and I collected, assembled, fabricated and modified parts for a kit. Both Johnny and I fit them to our GMCs. I got mine going first (I think) and that was on a 98° day here in Michigan. I had checked things out carefully and included thermocouples for coolant in and out by pushing them under the clamps at the respective hoses. Then I took Chaumière for an eight mile highway run that I intentionally ended at the entry to a local waterpark as I knew that would cause a gridlock. I did have several recovery plans in place that were not needed at all. Even with my low idle, the peak temperature held for the 20+ minutes until I got loose and was able to move at 30MPH. At that point, the control returned to the system and the fan cycled as expected (hoped).
The new parts are a plastic ring fan and a two piece fan shroud that had to be cut to accommodate the 20" diameter. This was the shroud available at the time and while it may allow for some reversion, judging by the system performance this must not be much of an issue. There is also a temperature switch that installs where you take out the TVS (if you still have one), a control box, manual switch and an indicator light. The indicator light is kind of nice because I can't hear if the fan is engaged at low RPM.
If you have other questions, come see me and it at Elkhart.

Why the idle at 350? At that speed I would think oil slinging off the crank would only be thrown about an inch above the rod big end and never get up to the walls or to cool the underside of pistons.

At 360 RPM no need for a tach. You can just count the balancer rotations for 10 secs and multply by 6. I don't think it will like the 1 scenario where you pull off an exit ramp and catch a stoplight.

John,
Six revolutions a second is a little like watching a 1911 slug go to the end of an indoor range. You got to have much younger eyes than I do.
We had one time in the 98/98 at Paducah that was a concern, so Mary just leaned on the go peddle a little for 30 seconds.
