I just received my new vintage air thru Jim K but want to install new
carpet before I install the AC unit. Do you folks have any new high tech
super insulating carpet pad or other methods you use under the carpet. I've
just used a thick carpet pad previously.

Mass loaded vinyl looks good for sound attenuation, how is it for
temperature insulation?

Thanks Justin/ John , yes the mass vinyl does look great for sound, I am
also.looking for a thermal barrier (hence my vintage air) I have some
super duty silver "bubble wrap" used below radiant heat systems that I may
try for the thermal part with the mass vinyl on top?

John, it does a good job of that as well. I can't remember the brand of mine, but it's about 3/4" thick and does a good job of heat barrier too.
While driving down the interstate all day my floors are warm but never hot.
I also have 2 full layers of dynamat like material (Noico) with foil that helps with heat.

I drove to Indianapolis (5 hrs) with only the dynamat and the noise level was awful. Put in the MLV and now it sounds like a new car. I barely hear the engine or road noise unless the fan (afterburner) comes on.
