As we near the hopeful end of the Eleganza’s “to do list”,
I just had my leaking power steering pump swapped out, and now there’s a vibration when i accelerate, from 0 to 20MPH and then goes away.
From the driver’s seat perspective, it seems like its coming from the steering gearbox itself, and is a bit more pronounced when taking sharp turns, in a parking lot, and even happens in reverse.
I got the pump from OReillys and rented a pulley-puller from Autozone, but must confess I was a bit distracted during this job (while other mechanics were doing bodywork outside the coach at the same time), and so i wasn’t able to watch the work while they were doing it. At first, the pulley wasn’t very straight on the pump, but then they reseated it perfect.
So what are the suspects? Bad pump? loose pump? ….?
I should also mention that i had new seals put in the steering box a month ago (was leaking off the top seal)
and the system seemed to be doing fine after that, other than the steering pump leak, which itself became more leaky after fixing the steering box leak!
Definitely didn’t have this noise/vibration issue before the pump swap, so i really don’t think its a coincidence.
At times it really shakes the front of the coach.
Standing by for experienced advice, my esteemed GMC gurus!
Cheers,
Greg
Tijuana to LA to Boston (flight) and back to LA tomorrow
