Hi All,

I've been looking at GMCs for over a year now. I believe I want an Eleganza or other configuration that offers sleeping space for a family of three and a golden retriever (and a shower for the humans). I'm happy to be schooled on the best layout and equipment to look for.

I'm located in North Carolina, but willing to travel (or haul) for the right vehicle. I prefer a reconditoned vehicle like an Explorer conversion and will happily pay a little more for it up front to avoid 40+ year old car problems.

I look at these things as a more complex classic car than the ones I own now, and understand what I'm getting into mechanically outside of the RV pieces. If there are any major pitfalls outside of generators and airbags I should watch for, appreciate the advice.

Thanks

Luke

Hi Luke,
I didn't see in your post what part of NC you are in...
I'm in Raleigh and would be happy to show you both of mine. In theory, either is for sale, as I really only need one in my life! Whether you buy or not, I can show you some of the year and layout differences.
I tried to Private Message you on this forum, but your settings didn't allow it.

Hi All,

Thanks for asking. I'm between Mooresville and Catawba in the woods.

Love to take those open to me looking at their trucks up on your offers!

Ken, I think that coach was listed in craigslist with some pictures. In my opinion, no way worth the asking price. May be a different one: https://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/rvs/6176442876.html
Fayetteville he says.

Could be. For some reason I'm being blocked from Craigslist so I can't
look. The price is definitely too high, especially with the reported rear
end damage. The owner says he was the owner of Sagan RV, if you remember
that dealership. He's not very communicative on the 'phone -- he said "I
had the interior redone ...". After waiting for him to continue, I said,
"What, upholstery, carpets, what?" "Yeah". So I gave it up. He claimed
that someone offered him an $18,000 cashiers check for it last year, before
it rolled backward into the tree, and he refused it. I told him, "You
should have taken it!" He'll be lucky to get $10K and $8K would probably
be more reasonable -- IF the interior's in good shape and it's really only
$1200 in repair work.

Neither you nor I want it anyway. :-)

From the pictures original wheels, dated tires, will need a rear cap plus repair to whatever got bent underneath it. Cockpit seats look reupholstered. Rear settee/bed upholstery doesn't match the dinette which doesn't match the cockpit seats. Also needs (I susopect) hoses, tanks dropped, belts, transmission drain, refilter, refluid, etc. etc. Has a newer radio poorly mounted in the dash. Everything else looks box stock based on the last Royale I glanced at.
I'd ask him when the tanks were dropped, alcohol proof hoses added, date code on the tyres, when last has he taken it anywhere, are the brakes good.
I >might< offer 1500 deoending I could find a rear cap and it runs and shifts properly and the brakes stop it. I suspect none of these are happening.

Also front seats don't match. Both FexSteel in white, but different patterns. Rear and intermediate tyres on driver's side flat or nearly so. Carpet's rolled back on the hatch, indicating problems under it.

A new rear cap is not one of the lighter matters.

According to the number, same one as I noted - craigslist number is identical. Pictures are there. Information changes though - 9800 dollars, 12 year ownership, couple of other discrepancies. I'd shine it on.

I've got a rear cap on the parts coach. The Royale is way overpriced though and I dont need another GMC project. Based on the damage, I doubt much is hurt on the frame, perhaps the bumper shock absorber.
