Went to leave this am and the coach would not move unless we gave it a lot of power. It eventually would shift but isn't shifting out of first. I had an extra governor gear but can't find it and am afraid it may have been left at home in a box that was taken inside.
I checked the transmission fluid level and it was low. I added a pint and then drove it around the rest area but still was having the no power almost like it was slipping. I checked the fluid level again and it was under the add 1 pint line still so I added another pint. But here we sit now trying to find that damn gear.
Phone num is two oh two 4 eight nine 77 five four
Checking the black list now as well.

Check the vacuum line to the modulator, which runs down the right side of
the engine.
Make sure your parking brake is not stuck, though I'm not sure the parking
brake, even when working, is effective enough to make it that difficult to
move.
Do you have any visible leaks? That includes leaks from the chain case, the
pan, and the modulator.
Since it was sudden, and the fault appeared while the coach was stopped,
I'm guessing a vacuum hose or bad modulator.

Def not the governor. Added trans oil and we're back on the road. Going 60m/h at 2200rpm (normal cruising rpm is 1800). We'll pull off at the next opportunity and check the modulator and look for leaks. (Oil add was because it hadn't been checked in a few thousand miles)

Checked while running in Park on level ground. Ended up adding 4 pints. There is a leak when we stopped.
On the road now. Less power than normal though. Talked to Tom Hampton and he said to check the fan clutch. Opened up the hatch with the engine running and watched the fan as we turned it off. The fan stopped immediately.
We're now back on the road and in search of a fan clutch.

He says won't go not won't shift so low fluid is the right place to look. Are you checking it RUNNING in park? If you are checking improperly with
engine off it will be under filled. Must be running. Just making sure.

Remembering my coach with the stock 3.07 gearing, 2200 - 2250 was what I'd see cruising 60-62mph. 1800 seems mighty low. Unless you have really big tyres on it.

Hmmm... maybe I'm just hyper aware right now and over analyzing it. You might be right. The fan clutch is def stuck though bec I can feel the power suck while driving.

A stuck fan clutch will convince you to think the trans is slipping.
Tom Hampton is correct.
Fan clutch , just ask for a HD one for a 76 Toronado.
Call me and Ill guid you through a easier way to swap it.

Yeh, stuff another clutch on. And be glad the low fluid showed up before you drove it low and burned a clutch or two... which ain't fixable roadside. It won't survive low fluid for very long.

Not a good way to start your big trip. Yellowstone right??
Ok. Fan hayden part #clutch you want. =. 2747. That is the "heavy duty"
Oreilies should list a murrey part same number. Other parts stores may have to do some searching to cross ref the hayden #'s
The one you dont want is the 2797= severe duty.
If you want a 2797, swing through mn and i you can have the one i took out when i got confused on numbers.

Of course now we've got a bit of a leak Of tranny fluid every time we stop (and seems to be a consistent drip)... prob how we got low to begin with.
Anyone along the 80/90 corridor that wouldn't mind a drop in?

Constant drip = crawl under and find it. If you have any rubber in the cooling lines (no longer OEM hardlines) suspect it. Check the overflow... if it's putting fluid out it will run down the transmission and drip. Lookit the pan edges - you got to wipe it clean first, any leak will run around the edge of the pan. Check where the dipstick tube fits in the back edge od the final drive... if the o-rinng dies or breaks it can leak there.
While you're under it looking, take a wrench and remove the modulator and set the 'full' fluid per instructions. It may just be over full. Call Manny for advice.
