So on the topic of if it can go wrong it might, my EV6010 decided not to start on our last trip. Yeah, right after I bragged in a previous post about how it always starts for me. That'll teach me.

For a June trip to the beach, in Alabama, that made for a hot ride both ways, but we sucked it up and went. The kids were loaded up with popsicles and off we went. When we got to the campground I discovered I had a spark problem. There was none. After looking at the plugs and pondering, I took a screwdriver, grounded it, put on my rubber gloves and ran it along the plug wire while holding the start button. When the screwdriver sparked I think I found the problem.

Well finally got a chance to tinker a little bit yesterday. Plug wires on a Honda Generator? Not replaceable. You have to replace the entire Coil Assembly. So I pulled the house batteries out, and my compartment divider, and set to work squirming and worming my way to remove the generator cover bolts without having to pull the beast out of the hole. Finally got it all off and wandered inside. Less than $85 to replace online from various sources, but no one local with anything in stock.

I decided to be smart and call Paul at Pinellas Power. Kind of like calling one of our vendors it ensures I get the correct part even if it costs a bit more. He must have laughed at me for 2 minutes when I described my problem and solution. Told me in 22 years he had seen one (1) coil go bad and no wires. Said it's almost always the boots, which are a replaceable part, though they cost an obscene $15 a piece. Paul was kind enough to send me a used coil for free, said he will never need it since they don't go bad, and I had him throw in 2 new boots and paid for shipping.

EBay may provide you a solution, but dealing with our vendors and people like Paul just make life better.
