I started my generator up today after being in storage over the winter and can't get the field to excite. I've tried holding the start switch for more than 2 seconds per the book multiple times with no luck. Can someone offer a suggestion?

Hold it in longer. If that does not do it, I'm out of options

I've held it in 5 sec or more Jim, still no joy. Will call tech support tomorrow unless someone else comes up with a fix. Thanks for the advise though.

It's a model 05754-0 with only 55 hrs on it. It hasn't run in probably 6 months and I know I should run it every month or so, my bad.

Sorry, not familiar with that one. Looks like the same engine as the older ones but different alternator. The small ones had permanent magnets, so no external excitation was required. (TYhey also weren't very reliable, but that's a different story).
