I found this today:

http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/dometic-americana-dmc-refrigerators-with-compressor-cooling-6-cu-ft-right-hinge/88497

Dometic hasn't offered compressor-based fridges since the factory that made their Tundra line burned down a few years ago. This model appears to be brand new. In fact the only place I can find any reference to it is on the Camping World web site. Camping World doesn't even list a model number, or many specs, like freezer size, etc.

The price, $1142, looks good. Of course, that's still twice the cost of the 7.4 cubic foot Avanti that (just barely) fits in a GMC.

I have an Avanti fridge. No it does not run off 12 volts directly, it requires an Inverter. I use a 1500W pure sine wave Samlex inverter. It takes about 600w to start and about 80w to run measured on the DC side of the inverter.

I hate to disagree here (not really), but we looked at Avanti. They are a third to a quarter of the cost.
Yes, they need an inverter.
50$ (40 if you catch the 25% chit) at Hazard Fright for a modified square wave that runs motors (like compressors) just find.
Maybe a little warmer, but not 300$ warmer.
Been running a tiny two door Frigidaire this way for years now.
I do carry a spare inverter as the fans get noisy and quit.

we like the Avanti. I just could not bring myself to spend 3 to 4 times as much for a RV model. We rarely boondock so the power requirements has not been a big issue. The unit cools quickly if the coach has not been used for a couple weeks. lots of cooling power for beer , pop and wine.

To Matt, while the modified since wave may run the compressor, the motor noise is higher. buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The Dometic DMC runs 12 & 110v... 6 and 8 cu ft..
same size as the 6 and 8s lp models today..

And unlike the Avanti, it's designed for the rv movement and travel..

I wonder why it is so hard to find info on it? I would definitely replace my absorption fridge with a 12v capable compressor that would fit. 110 only is not an option as we frequently boondock.

I have an 8 cu. ft. Vitrifrigo I took out my totalled (ice storm) cabin cruiser that I can put in the GMC SOMEDAY!
It has a 24/12V compressor and runs on 120 AC (if available) from a 12V power supply. About 4 or 5 Amps when compressor is running.
