Hi Jim and Bob,
That coach has the cross over blocked off, baffles directing cool air across the top of the engine, no wheel liners so hot air flows out easily whether driving or stopped and has a fan assisted engine oil aux cooler that turns on and draws cool air through the grill, through the area over the start battery, through the aux cooler and out past the ps wheel when stopped after running in the hot weather. I never experienced any heat soak starting issues with that coach and this event occurred in cooler weather far from the hot driving conditions. So, while heat soak sounds like a reasonable root cause, I doubt that it is.
FiTech and all the other copy cats have a bazillion units running in all kinds of vehicles, including a lot of GMCs, apparently without heat soak issues so if that was an endemic issue I would expect it would be all over the blogs. I am not seeing that.
Thanks for the offer to help the new owner get warrantee coverage. I will pass that on to
him.

Bob,
I need to agree with you.
Both MSD an FiTech and other units were never designed to put up with the
environment our coaches with low hood and big exhaust crossover.
I suggest that one should use the intake block off plate.
Should that unit not be covered by warranty, call me so I can get it
covered.
