Hi - I am the new owner of a 1975 GMC Eleganza. Just getting it ready for the summer season and was testing the Onan generator. Using the inside remote switch, the generator started up after a few tries. However, when I went to stop it....no luck. Tried the switch on the generator itself but it has been damaged and appears to be missing.
Would anyone have experience in fixing this issue? Any links to what the switch on the generator should be?
Thanks for the help.
Mike.

Mike. Mike,
You posted in the "GMCsandbox" section. No one ever looks here. You need to post to the main forum at "GMCnet".
To answer your question, if the switch is damaged or missing at the generator, that will require soldering to the control board. Are you able to repair electronic boards by soldering to the printed circuit part of the board? If so, you will need to buy a "rocker" switch which someone on the main forum can probably tell you a part number and a source. If you can't do board repair yourself, you will either need to buy a new board from Jim K or see if someone will repair the board for you. New board:

To get the remote panel working, you need to track down a wiring problem. Pin 2 on the board is the stop function. Grounding this pin stops voltage to the fuel pump and the coil. It has to stay grounded long enough for the generator to spin down, otherwise it will just resume running. When you push the switch at the remote panel to stop the Onan, it does the grounding. The ground wire from the switch is OK because the start function worked. You have a corroded connection or a broken wire between the switch and pin 2 of the board. Once you get that resolved, you can turn it off at the remote panel.
