I am about to put a pipe wrench on it and go all caveman, but I am pretty sure I can render it un-re-useable (being brass it is pretty soft).

I don't begrudge Jim K the profit on one of his reconditioned filters, and as a last resort I will buy one and pay shipping and core charge to get it. But I would rather not spend that much logistical effort, not to mention more of my favorite dollars, to get one.

Anyone?
