Hi,
been looking at tt's and small motorhomes for a few months and came across the GMC motorhomes. just wanted to see if any one out there might reside any where near Greensboro NC, or a reasonable drive, and would take the time to let me come and see a actual unit and ask questions?

thanks..don

Hi Don
We all love to show off our coaches.
You might try the "Black List", http://www.bdub.net/Black_List/

Don,
I live in Winston Salem and have two GMC's in my garage that I can show
you. I have owned a GMC for 20 years, driven from NC to the Oregon coast
and back 5 times in my GMC, have worked on 5 or 6 and sold two for friends
of mine. I also know several others in the area. Email me at
jrwheeler7 at gmail dot com.

Don: I am sure that there are more GMC's in your area than you might think. A couple of things to keep in mind. The GMC motorhome was/is a revolutionary vehicle. From it's aluminum frame construction, adhesive bonding of aluminum skin construction. Very low drag design, it is said to have a lower drag coefficient than the same year corvette. It does not drive like a truck or van. Talk to an owner (allow several hours). Find out why after 40 years, of the 12,500 constructed, over 9,000 of them are still registered! After driving one, you will be spoiled. You will ask yourself why can't the new ones drive this easy? The answer is NO one has the necessary skill set, and parts bin necessary to do it, except for General Motors. Send an Email to Mary Barra and see if she can justify building them again.
Our 1975 Eleganza II has such things as branded drawers (Crafted by GMC Coach), and after 41 years, no rattles, and that unmistakable solid sounding door when you close it. Yes, it will take a bit of additional time to maintain a 40 year old house, but if you are willing to put in the time, you will not be disappointed.

And there are the owners. They are willing to answer every question, provide feedback on what's new for our coaches, what does not work, and more opportunities to meet up at more events per year than you can possibly imagine. You are actually considering joining a family.

Barry Owen is down that way. I believe he's near Lexington south of Greensboro. Just met him at a rally last year. He's a hoot.

Here's an older article on his background.

I am in Greensboro, you are more than welcome to check out mine.
I know there is another one in Greensboro, and 2 in Jamestown.

Mine is one of the ones Jerry has worked on, thank you again.

There are at least three in Raleigh as well.

Not got one yet (too fussy, not in great hurry yet) but the first thing I did was read the last 3 years of posts on this forum.
It will give you an insight into these machines unobtainable elsewhere.

Main things I got out of it were

1. It's an unbeatable community of owners and vendors

2. Everything can be fixed......but necessarily cheaply.

3.It's going to cost you about $25,000, in one shot or a bit at a time....And possibly much more.

4. do not get a coach and strip it all out to rebuild it. Odds are you'll never get close to finishing it.

5. Many coaches have been parked up for years by owners who still expect to get the value it had when first parked.

6. There are lots of different layouts to choose from.

7. There are differences between the years they built.

All original interior, updated and ready to go. This owner is a restorer and does not mess around with vehicles. I have seen this coach and it is nice.
