I am looking to replace the remote inside genset start switch. I replaced my 4.5 Kw Kohler with a 6.0Kw Onan. The Onan came with a remote start switch and hourmeter, etc. I would prefer not re-wiring the line from the inside of the coach to the genset and just re-use the existing wire. Is this feasible? The switch has start, run and stop functions as well as hourmeter power, but I am unsure of how they correspond to the wiring at the genset end. Any ideas?

Randy,
I'm sure we have some used ones here in our inventory.
Call me.

Before you start, make a 'truth' table showing the colors used by the Onan remote, with function and the colors used by the new switch/genset. You may find someone installed wires that are too wimpy to handle the load. Genset in my coach was remote wired with CAT 3 (telephone grade). I did not trust it to do the job and I completely bypassed the run.

The diagram is very helpful. I'm not sure I was clear that I have a stock Onan on one end of the wiring and a stock Onan remote switch on the other with Kohler wiring connecting the two. I am going to assign the wires to the appropriate connections on each end. Without the wiring diagram, I'd be just guessing, so thanks again.

I am pretty sure the new Onan switch innards are the same as what came on the GMC from the factory. Since you apparently didn't read the post I pointed to, here is a quote of the last paragraph. Description is from the view of looking at the switch from the back of the switch:
"Board pin 1 is ground and goes to the middle left connector on the switch, board pin 2 is start and goes to the top left of the switch, board pin 3 is stop and goes to the bottom left of the switch, board pin 6 is run indicator lamp/hobbs meter and goes to the top right on the switch, and board pin 5 goes to the bottom right of the switch for the battery condition meter if you have one."
I may have pins 2 and 3 mixed up in that post, but if you press the start and nothing happens, and you press stop and it tries to start, they are reversed.
Mine has been messed with, but FWIW, on mine, black is pin 1, white with red stripe is pin 2, white is pin 3, red is pin 6. I don't have anything on pin 5 to the remote start/stop.
Assign wire colors to yours and get on with it.

You need - and have - four wires. Simply assign them by color at each end according to your Onan book. As to wire size, the Onan control runs off the fused 12V so pretty much any wire will do. I've a Kohner 4.5KW 'thumper' in the shop which came out of my SOB if anyone is interest5ed.

On the rocker switch, if you push on the upper portion of the switch you
are making electrical connection on the bottom side. Pin #2 goes to bottom
and pin #3 goes to top of switch

If 3 is start and top of switch is start-- you want 3 to go to bottom teminal due to opposite switch action. One side of switch is common, start and stop. Other side is for indicator lamp only
