I'm in the process of installing a late steering column with the multi function switch so I'm planning to wire Ken's wipers through the new switch. I'd like to employ the bridge diode method Ken discussed in the winter edition of GMC Vintage RVing to slow the speed but think mounting a switch to defeat it would be a good idea. Besides, I'll have an extra hole marked wipers in the dash and mounting a switch there would a great way to clean things up. The article mentioned doing this with a DPST CO switch, I assume would shunt between the bridge input and the high medium leads of the switch, correct? If you're out there Ken, is this what you had in mind?

Got it Ken, I'd just glanced at the diagram and thought the switch depicted the stalk switch. The lights just came on .

Please let everyone know how it works for you after you've gotten a little
experience with it. I suspect, from comments I've received, that it could
be the answer for a lot of folks.

Will do Ken, thank you for the information. Your diagram of the wiper motor terminals in your installation instructions helped a bunch. Living in the SW we can go a LONG time before we need to use the wipers though. I've had wiper blades go bad before they had ever being used. But I should be ready I hope...

ATTENTION ELECTRIC WIPER USERS:
At Shawnee I modified several GMCs with a variation on the electric wiper
slow-down mod. published at:

After that publication appeared, it occurred to me that it would be quicker
and easier to insert the bridge rectifier in the Ground lead rather than
the Power lead. Every time I installed the mod., I did it that way. It
being such a simple change that we never tested it.
I've since learned from one owner, and experienced myself, a situation I
didn't anticipate: SOME Lumina wiper motors are grounded not only by the
pigtail's ground wire, but by the motor housing. In that case, the mod.
causes no problem, but it also does nothing to slow the motor.
So, if I, or you, installed the bridge rectifier in the Ground lead and the
wipers still run fast, that's probably the problem. You'll have to move
the rectifier IAW the published diagram.
Sorry 'bout that -- all my shop motors have isolated grounds.
