On our Royale we lost the engine several years ago and then went through a nightmare of cascading failures for subsequent engines until we finally found S and J engines in Spokane, WA. We installed that one without reusing anything that touched water or oil. That proved so far to be a great combination and that coach is always ready to go anywhere at a moments notice - like taking us 8600 miles to Alaska and back last summer.
Based on that very positive experience we decided to preemptively replace the engine in the Clasco which was running just fine. Our logic was we will probably will continue our GMC adventures for another ten years before we age out so somewhere in that time frame we would have to change the engine anyway, so why not do that earlier rather than later. Even though that engine had not failed, we decided to follow the same strategy and replaced everything that touched oil or water. We also replaced everything that moves on the outside of the engine. The marginal cost is not all that much more and you get a lot of certainty for that relatively small premium. Between a correctly remanufactured engine, a properly done engine installation and the FiTech EFI the Clasco drives like a new motorhome while being a lot better built than any new MH anywhere near this size or cost.
If you do your homework selecting an engine rebuilder, buying the new radiator, hoses and other external components, and find out from Jim what the labor cost would be for the R&R I think you will be shocked at how relatively economical this is to do. If you plan to keep your coach for five to ten years I think you will find this a no brainier decision.

A wise person once told me " You can get 20 years experience once, or, you
can get 1 years experience 20 times, the choice is yours." How many times
are members of this great GMC community going to experience catastrophic
engine failure caused by crap from the previously failed engine lodged in
the lines and oil cooler. A rattle can full of carb cleaner will not clean
it out. Neither will an ordinary air compressor "OSHA APPROVED" air nozzle.
You are better off removing the stock oil cooler and running without one. I
have no experience with the machine that Rob talks about, but S and J will
not warranty any of their engines unless new hoses and brand new previously
unused coolers are fitted. That is what I do when I install new engines. On
Jerry Work's Clasco coach that I installed an S & J engine in, I even
replaced the radiator with an aluminum one. Ask Jerry what he thinks.
