Hi everyone! New to forum, and a complete car and rv novice. I just bought this 1975 ELEGANZA II and made sure it was roadsafe, got the engine and everything safety checked and tuned up, now I'm getting into the details Smile I need to do a full interior overhaul but first want to get the water tank and window fixed! For the window I'm just looking for the slidey-window glass by the drivers side--the window pane is missing, and my water tank (I sure don't know a model number but hoping they are standard?) is cracked so I need to put one of those in and hopefully the rest of the system is in good shape! Please let me know if you have any leads or suggestion!
Thx!
Roxanne.

Roxanne,

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.....

You have done things right, get it safe to travel, you can even use it and enjoy her the way she is. We have a couple that came a couple of thousand miles to an international in a coach with substantially no interior at all. Your plan is good, but please try to hook up with the local chapters to get to a rally. You can learn a lot about what works and what doesn't in a real big hurry. Most everything that makes any sense at all has been tried in 40+ years. Not all of it worked.

Three immediate things:

First, This forum is strange (even for GMC) some of the readers get it as e-mail messages. They don't get to see the swap section unless they go looking for it. They also don't see the header where is says Los Angeles.

Second, A potable water tank will be 3~400$, you might do better used. But a used will be 40 years old and may already be brittle. If yours has not gone brittle, search locally for a plastic fabricator that can weld polyethylene (PE). He may have a minimum charge of 100$, but if it can be welded that could be a serious cost savings.

Third, You have to get to know Jim Kanomata at Applied GMC in Newark(CA). He is a part of our supportive and helping community of which you are now a part. Jim is in the business of selling GMC parts, but if you call and ask for advice, you will get it. He is just a part of an amazing group. The support you will find here is unlike anything I know of other than my world of the watermen. Because of that similarity, I have taken to welcoming new owners here mach as a new owner or vessel is welcomed there. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Roxanne

Back to other things. If you don't get an answer here soon, go to the main forum and ask again. There are more than a few coaches being parted out. The tank is relatively simple, just not easy. That window (I am told) is a major PITA to deal with as the entire frame needs to be removed. But, there are more than a few people here that will be able to guide you alone a best path. Do not be afraid to ask for advice and even hands on help.

While at that, you need to do us and you a favor here. Go up to <Control Panel/Account Settings> and scroll down to where you can write in a sigfile. This will be placed at the end of every message you post. It should have -Your Real name so others here will know you when meeting. A short about the coach and this is important because there are differences between years and models that can matter. As and geographic reference so when another that could be a lot of help will know if he is in striking range. Then, don't forget to scroll down to the "update" button... Amazing things do happen here.

Again, Welcome

Matt

Thanks a ton! Just now getting the coach back from my mechanic friend, who's been working on her off and on when he has time since last I wrote, believe it or not! He managed to patch up the water tank and get that window fixed along with a bunch of other great things. Now I'm on to the interior fixes! Smile
