I have a good 3.07 final drive, but don't have the long output shaft/hanger for it so am looking for one. I've read that the 68-78 Toronados have the correct shaft, and that it doesn't matter if it's from a 3.07 or 2.73 final drive. I know the Eldorado shaft will fit, but the hanger is the wrong shape.

Do later Toronados use the same shaft/hanger? I'd like to broaden my search as much as possible.

thanks,
Karen

The Toronado and motorhome use the same right hand shaft and hanger bracket. Not to be confused with the CV shaft (The shaft with the joints on each end.), as it is longer on the motorhome than the Tornado.

The 66' and 67' Toro/Eldo and (IIRC) the 68' eldo used the 3.21 FD. The shafts are different diameter, different spline and while the hanger is the same, they have a different hanger bearing than the later 3.07 and 2.73 shafts. NOT interchangeable. Pretty sure of this. John B??? correct me if I am wrong.

I've installed both the 3.21 and a 3.07, and pulled a 3.07 from a junkyard Eldorado, so am familiar with them.
The 3.21 is 66/67; I believe by 68 they'd probably gone to a 2.73 or 3.07.

What I'm trying to figure out is what year Toronados had a 2.73 or 3.07 final drive so I can get the long output shaft and hanger?
I'm reasonably sure 68-78 will work, but it's getting harder and harder to find ones this old. If there are later model years with the correct shaft, it would greatly expand the selection.

thanks,

While trying to figure this out, I stumbled upon an interesting Toronado site that has a significant piece about the motorhome in it:
http://ateupwithmotor.com/model-histories/oldsmobile-toronado-gmc-motorhome/view-all/

Anyway, it appears that about 1979 they went to a 350 engine and a TH325 tranny. Still don't know what final drive the
later ones used, but I suspect the major engine change may have resulted in a modified output shaft bracket.

You've got it correct. 68-78 Toro is the only direct fit. Either gear
ratio.
