I'm not looking for an EFI system. As I have one that I bought 3 years ago. It has the spark control. That's extremely important. I'm just looking for the pump that will work with my 454 TB.

Subject: In line fuel pump for my EFI.
I'm pulling my 78 403 intake manifold due to an exhaust leak. So this is a good time to install my EFI. It's a Howell system. But I'm installing a Chevy 454 TB. So I need a part number for the proper fuel pump.
Thanks. Bob Dunahugh

John Sharpe wrote on Thu, 20 October 2016 04:19Bob, There are a lot of choices but you need to know which TBI unit you have as the later ones ran at a higher pressure. I would advise that you go to EBL to get the thing tuned properly. Get with Bob Musgrove of Tulsa as he has that same setup on his '78 403. He worked with tuning the system on the 403 and is running the larger TBI with EBL on his original Howell system.
Bob,
I,ve had two brands of inline frame mounted pumps on my EFI. The up side is that it can be relatively easy to change it out if you have problems with it. The down side is (in my experience) that they are noisy. Especially in warm weather. A very high pitched wine. Pull up to a red light and people look at you. I finally went to two submersible pumps in the tanks. If one dies on you, just switch to the other tank and use it until you get home. Emery did a presentation at one of the past GMCMI conventions and has a handout (I think on line) with step by step procedure for changing over to dual in-tank pumps. Quiet, effective, reduces chance of vapor lock, do it once forever. JMHO
